Matt Baker announces ‘Travels in the Country: USA’ series

Matt Baker, 45, has been offered a comforting comment that late comedian and presenter Paul O’Grady will “look after” his family dog that has recently died.

The Baker family shared the news on Instagram about the death of their dog Isla on Thursday morning.

In a touching post dedicated to their four-legged family member, the Farm on the Hill account wrote: “So sad, we’ve said goodbye to Isla, our oldest smallest cairn at 13yrs.” (sic)

The family received an outpouring of love and well wishes having released their news. But one fan in particular wrote a touching response that involved Matt’s late friend and colleague.

It read: “No matter how many years we have with our pets it is not enough. So for your loss of Isla, I’m sure Paul O’Grady will look after her for you.”

During the pandemic Matt had called for Paul O’Grady to join Countryfile as a presenter. The pair were good friends and bonded over a love of animals.

When Paul passed away, Matt took to his socials and posted a touching tribute. He wrote: “I’m so sad today hearing the passing of my friend Paul.

“I loved everything he stood for, he was the kindest company with a soul our greatest judges of character, animals, held in the highest regard.”

He added: “Thank you Paul for your generosity, here’s to celebrating all you achieved. I shall miss you greatly and I will forever treasure the quiet times and conversations we had. RIP X”

After fans and followers had offered  condolences to the Bakers about the news of Isla’s death, Matt later commented: “The reason we love dogs so much is the only time they break our hearts is when they leave us.”

The former Blue Peter presenter, who documented his family life in the series Matt Baker: Our Farm in the Dales, regularly shares the behind-the-scenes of his life and the animals on social media.

The series began in 2021 and followed Matt as he returned to his childhood county of Durham to help his parents run the family farm.

The three-season series followed Matt in running the farm’s day-to-day operations following his mother’s serious injury.

Recently, the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant teased fans with a possible new location for his agricultural series. Uploading another post to Instagram, he revealed a new show was coming to Channel 4.

In the clip, Matt showed fans a glimpse of his new show ‘Travels in The Country USA’. The series will follow a similar theme to the UK version but with a focus on Southern states.
