Matthew McConaughey is not willing to be apart from his wife, Camila Alves, for more than a few weeks.

The 53-year-old actor got emotional talking about his family life at a Live Talk event in Los Angeles on Saturday.

The Oscar winner revealed that he and his wife, Camila Alves, have not spent more than nine days apart in the entirety of their marriage since tying the knot in 2012.

McConaughey spoke to Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt about his debut children’s picture book Just Because, and divulged some details about his successful career and family life.

McConaughey and the Brazilian model, 41, met in a West Hollywood nightclub in 2006 and later welcomed Levi, 15, Vida, 13, and Livingston, 10.

In 2018, the actor told People that before he met Alves, he wasn’t sure he would ever find “unconditional love.”

He recalled: “I mean, the clock was ticking. I was about to be 40 and my plan was to be married and have kids by that age. But I didn’t want to play the game of starting to feel anxious because, with too much anxiety, you can’t find a mate. And then you make a hasty decision.”

McConaughey added: “I knew men who had made hasty decisions and women who had done the same thing. But at that point, I wasn’t hunting. And then this amazing woman walked across my field of vision and I thought, ‘Who is that?’ And it was Camila. We have a love that we never question.”

The pair welcomed their first son Levi in 2008 and two years later, their daughter Vida.

In 2011, McConaughey proposed and tied the knot six-month later at their home in Austin, Texas in June 2012.

Later that year, they welcomed their third child. His wife previously addressed her initially tricky dynamic with her mother-in-law.

McConaughey’s new children’s book features inspirational lessons and is illustrated by Renée Kurilla.

The Hollywood star, who is slated to be joining the Yellowstone franchise, told The New York Times that his children “dig it.”

He said: “My daughter’s very visual. My eldest really gets it and thinks it’s really cool. My youngest is still letting me know what he likes. He sits back a little more and lets me know later.”

The actor’s mother is also a fan of his book, especially since she taught her song some of the lessons.

McConaughey added: “My mom digs it. She was a teacher. She’s like, ‘Yeah, this is all the stuff I taught you, Matthew.'”

The children’s book isn’t the actor’s debut as a writer.

It comes following the success of his New York Times bestselling memoir and life guide, Greenlights, originally published on October 20, 2020.

Just Because was published on September 12.
