Meghan Markle finally releases Spotify podcast featuring pal Serena Williams

Meghan Markle's Archetypes podcast has finally launched on Spotify.

The first episode of 41 year old mum-of-two Meghan's podcast is titled The Misconception of Ambition with Serena Williams, and it's clear that the Duchess of Sussex means business by enlisting the help of the tennis ace, who is one of her good friends.

The podcast launched on Tuesday and the description reads: "Meghan talks to the one and only Serena Williams about the double standard women face when they are labeled "ambitious" and the ripple effects this has on other aspects of their lives.

"This groundbreaking premiere episode also features Dr. Laura Kray, a leading expert on gender in the workplace."

Royal commentator Omid Scobie wrote on Twitter: "Meghan’s podcast has arrived.

"@Spotifyhave today premiered the long-awaited #Archetypes—a new series in which the Duchess Sussex investigates the labels that try to hold women back and shares stories from inspiring women across generations who conquered tropes in their lives."

In a teaser for the podcast, a number of derogatory words can be heard in the media, before Meghan can be heard saying: "This is how we talk about women: the words that raise our girls, and how the media reflects women back to us… but where do these stereotypes come from? And how do they keep showing up and defining our lives?"

Of the podcast, she said: "This is 'Archetypes' – the podcast where we dissect, explore, and subvert the labels that try to hold women back,

"I'll have conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives. And I'll talk to historians to understand how we even got here in the first place."

Elsewhere on the podcast, Meghan revealed the horrifying moment her and Prince Harry's son Archie's nursery caught fire whilst they were on their 2019 South Africa tour.

Meghan revealed to Serena: "We dropped him off at this housing unit that we were staying at and he was getting ready to go down for his nap," before she and Harry left for their first official engagement.

As the Duke and Duchess got back into their car, they were told: "There's been a fire at the residence. There's been a fire in the baby's room."

She continued: "Our amazing nanny Lauren…was in floods of tears. She was supposed to put Archie down for his nap and she just said, you know what, let me go and get a snack from downstairs."

Thankfully, Lauren had taken Archie with her downstairs as she made the snack, and it was in this time that the nursery caught fire.

Meghan explained: "In that amount of time that she went downstairs, the heater in the nursery caught on fire. There was no smoke detector, someone just happened to smell smoke down the hallway so they went in and the fire was extinguished. He was meant to be sleeping in there.

"Everyone's in tears, everyone is shaking. And what did we have to do? Go out and do another official engagement. And I said, 'This doesn't make any sense, can you just tell people what happened?"

Archetypes is the first podcast series to come from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's camp, after they signed a multi-million dollar multi-year deal with Spotify.

In 2020, the pair also signed a lucrative deal with streaming giant Netflix, which is rumoured to be worth around $100million (£83million).

They were asked to create original content including documentaries, movies, series and children’s programming, however nothing has yet launched.

According to reports though, the couple are said to want to renew their wedding vows, four years on from their 2018 UK wedding, and it will be filmed for Netflix.

Prince Harry and Meghan sensationally announced in January 2020 that they would be stepping down as senior members of the royal family, completing their final duties in March of that year.

They have since moved to a sprawling mansion in Montecito, California, where they live with their three year old son Archie and 14 month old daughter, Lilibet Diana.
