Meghan Markle’s dad Thomas says she ‘ignored’ gift he sent for her 40th birthday

Meghan Markle's father has claimed she ignored the birthday present he sent her last year.

To mark her 40th birthday, Thomas Markle says he sent her a bouquet of roses, but says he did not get any acknowledgement or response.

The Duchess of Sussex, who recently denied lying to Oprah Winfrey about growing up as an only child, has been estranged from her father for several years.

According to The Sun, the red rose bouquet included two yellow roses, one for each of his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.

The card accompanying the flowers reportedly read: "Happy Birthday to my bean with much love and a brighter future. Dad."

The 78-year-old was also speaking about his daughter during an appearance on GB News, claiming that the pair haven't spoken since her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018.

He said: "I wished her a happy birthday and brighter days ahead but I've not heard back."

In May this year, it was thought that Meghan may heal their four-year long rift after Thomas suffered a stroke.

Thomas was rushed to a hospital near his home in Rosarito, Mexico, later being transferred to another medical facility in San Diego, California.

Thomas' stroke was caused by a blood clot on the right side of his brain, which caused him to temporarily losing the ability to speak.

However, as indicated by Thomas, things have remained the same between them.

His revelations about his birthday gift come just days before Meghan's 41st birthday, which she'll celebrate on Thursday 4 August.

This is also just two months after Meghan and Harry celebrated their daughter Lilibet's first birthday on a trip to the UK for the Platinum Jubilee, which saw them reportedly only spend 15 minutes with the Queen over the four-day weekend.

They shared an adorable photo of Lilibet at a picnic thrown in celebration of her birthday at Frogmore Cottage, their former residence before stepping back from royal duty and moving to the US.

According to guests, the picnic was a close family affair, including cake for the birthday girl as well as face-painting.

Since then, Meghan and Harry's biographer Omid Scobie has announced he is writing a new book on the royals, promising "exclusive revelations".

The book, currently untitled, is said to focus "on a new chapter of the royal story and feature unique insight, deep access and exclusive revelations". It is set for publication in 2023.
