Meghan Markle’s emotional return to spotlight from stunning dress to heartfelt speech

Meghan Markle went for gold in a stunning strapless gown as she was honoured at the Ms Foundation's Women of Vision Awards.

The Duchess of Sussex dazzled in a $1,850 Joanna Ortiz gown with matching Tom Ford heels and a clutch bag by Carolina Herrera at the ceremony where she was presented with Ms Foundation's Women of Vision Award, recognising her "global advocacy to empower and advocate on behalf of women and girls".

And in a moving acceptance speech, which closed the gala in Manhattan, she said: "It's never too late to start.

"You can be the visionary of your own life… There is still so much work to be done."

Watched by her husband Prince Harry, smart in a dark tailored two-piece suit, and mum Doria Ragland the Duchess, who wore her long hair down and styled over one shoulder, said she was "inspired and driven' by the organisation".

"It allowed me to recognise that part of my greater value and purpose in life was to advocate for those who felt unheard, to stand up to injustice, and to not be afraid of saying what is true and what is just and what is right," Meghan said.

Her award came as recognition for her work through her and Prince Harry's Archewell Foundation which has given away $3m to good causes since it was founded in 2020 including supporting Covid vaccinations and helping Afghan refugees.

Tickets for the event were priced at $1,500 each while a table cost a minimum of $15,000.

Other women who were honoured at the 50th anniversary celebration – billed as a 'celebration of progress and power' – included Black Voters Matter co-founder LaTosha Brown, abortion rights activist Olivia Julianna and LGBTQ+ advocate Rebekah Bruesehoff.

The glitzy event is run by America's oldest women's foundation and sees the awardees receive their accolade by political activist and friend of Meghan, Gloria Steinem.

On its website it describes the Duchess and former star of Suits as "a feminist, champion of human rights and gender equity, and global role model."

When announcing the honours list, Ms. Foundation's president and CEO, Teresa C. Younger, praised the 'incredible leaders' who had been honoured.

"We are grateful to be able to shine a light on their many accomplishments and tireless work on behalf of gender and racial equity across the country and the world."
