Meryl Streep splits from husband Don Gummer after couple separated for six years

Meryl Streep joins Only Murders in the Building

After getting married in 1978, Meryl Streep and Don Gummer have confirmed they have been living separate lives after their split for six years.

In a statement to Page Six, a spokesperson for the actress revealed: “Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years, and while they will always care for each other, they have chosen lives apart.”

Despite their breakup, Meryl reportedly attended the Princesa de Asturias Awards 2023 wearing her wedding band.

However, the estranged couple were last seen together at the 2018 Oscars.

Meryl and the feted sculptor share four children Henry, 43, Mamie, 40, Grace, 37, and Louisa Jacobson, 30.

They also have five grandchildren Henry has two children with his wife, Tamryn Storm Hawker, and Mamie has two children with her husband Mehar Sethi.

Grace welcomed her first child with music producer Mark Ronson earlier this year, while

Louisa is best known for her starring role in HBO’s The Gilded Age.

Although they kept their relationship private the couple often attended red carpet events and award shows together.

In 2012, the Academy Award winner gushed as she made a rare public comment to Don during her speech for Best Actress.

She shared: “First, I’m going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech they play him out with the music. And I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives, you’ve given me.”

Meryl also briefly opened up about their family life when asked about the secret to a long marriage.

The 74-year-old told Vogue: “Goodwill and willingness to bend, and to shut up every once in a while.”

She added: “There’s no road map on how to raise a family: It’s always an enormous negotiation. But I have a holistic need to work and to have huge ties of love in my life.”
