Pete Davidson is busy preparing for his turn hosting Saturday Night Live in a couple weeks, and he reportedly has at least one specific request for the popular late-night show: no jokes about ex Kim Kardashian!
Of course, Pete had a starring run on SNL beginning back in 2014 and lasting all the way through his departure at the very end of last season. So he’s very familiar with Lorne Michaels‘ longstanding late-night show, its cast, and its writing team. And he’s using that familiarity to get his way on this one big thing!
According to a source who spoke to Page Six about the plan for Pete’s May 6 hosting return, the King of Staten Island star has reportedly requested he not be asked to “take any jabs at the reality star” on camera. As Perezcious readers will recall, Kim and Pete dated for a little less than a year before splitting up last August. Their romance kicked off following an Aladdin skit on the very show Pete is set to return to — so there’s quite a bit of history there!
Thus, it’s apparently important to Pete to steer clear of anything that could seem disrespectful to the SKIMS mogul in his opening monologue or elsewhere, as the source explained:
“He’s being a gentleman. … That’s why she’s not mentioned in his stand-up.”
Well isn’t that sweet!
It’s not just that Pete is worried about how Kim may take any potential jokes from the forthcoming late-night ep. In fact, a big piece of the Meet Cute star’s concern here has to do with Kim’s other ex, Kanye West. As you’ll no doubt remember, Ye made Pete a repeated target of his on Instagram during the comedian’s relationship with the Kardashians star. It was difficult for the Staten Island native to get through at the time, and he doesn’t want to re-live that unsettling period once more.
So, per that source, Davidson is keen on keeping far away from any Kim content:
“ her team is so protective of her image and it was so volatile from Kanye’s side.”
Makes sense!
…Or maybe not? A second source also spoke to the outlet for their Tuesday night report and claimed they “wouldn’t be surprised” if a KarJenner-related joke or two did make it into the show’s script before May 6!
The second insider noted:
“Nothing has been written yet, but know with Pete nothing is off the table.”
Huh.
Sooo things are still up in the air then? And there could be Kim-related riffs when Pete pops up on set in NYC?! Guess there’s only one thing to do then: wait until May 6 to watch how it all goes down!!
The second insider did add one more heartwarming comment to their reveal. Even though the Bupkis star was part of the SNL cast for nearly a decade, it sounds like he’s “still nervous” to return there and perform live once again:
“Even though it was his home for years, he is still nervous. It’s sweet.”
Awww!
That is very sweet. We love that the standup star is nervous about it. Heck, he’s still going to kill it! He was so good on SNL, and he’ll be just as good as its host. No need for nerves!! But what about these claims that he’s going to steer clear of Kim, y’all?? Are you buying it, or nah?!
