Prince HarrysnubbedPrince William’s offer of a secret meeting toheal the rift in their relationship, according to an explosive new book.
William, now Prince of Wales, is reported to have made the offer of reconciliation several months before the Duke andDuchess of Sussexstepped down as working royals and moved abroad.
William is said to have reached out to his brother after he gave a worrying television interview during a tour of South Africa.
The interview that sparked concern was the Sussexes 2019 filmed chat with ITV’s Tom Brady, in which they revealed they were "struggling" with some of the pressures of life as working royals.
Talking to Brady, Harry also opened up a little about his relationship with his brother, saying that the pair had “good days” and “bad days.”
And while, at the time, it was reported that William was “furious” over his brother’s comments, royal commentator Valentine Low now claims that William was more concerned than angry and tried reaching out to his younger brother.
Harry was initially said to be open to meeting, but later rejected his brother’s offer amid concerns that it would be leaked to the press.
In an extract of his book, Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, shared by theMailOnline, royal correspondent Valentine Low writes: “The day after the documentary aired, William WhatsApped his brother to ask if he could come and see him.
“Initially, Harry was in favour. Then he spoke to his brother again, and asked him whom he would tell. William explained that he'd have to clear his schedule, which would mean telling his private secretary. At that point, Harry told him: Don't come.
“He was so concerned that William's team would leak the visit to the Press that he would rather not see his brother than risk it getting into the papers.”
Valentine adds that the news of this failed meeting was “heartbreaking” to those close to both brothers, including other members of the royal family.
The royal commentator makes a number of claims about Meghan and Harry in his new book, including that Meghan believed she would be the“Beyoncé of the UK.”
There have been a host of books published in recent years covering the royal family, and now Prince Harry himself may set the record straight on all the rumours surrounding him and his wife.
He revealed last year that he was writing a book himself. The Duke said he was taking on the project "not as the Prince I was born, but as the man I have become".
No date has officially been confirmed for the release of the book, but it is expected to come out either late this year, or early 2023.
