Richard Hammond ‘hurt’ as daughter ‘scared to get in car with him’ after crashes

Richard Hammond’s eldest daughter Izzy was given an exciting lesson in off-roading by her father. However, she ended up hurting his feelings by admitting she was “scared to get in a car” with him.

For an instalment of DRIVETRIBE, the father and daughter duo were filmed spending quality time together in a Subaru. Richard could be seen persuading Izzy, 22, that the experience would be vital for her in the future.

The car enthusiast, 53, said: “As your father, I’m keen that you learn these skills because if you can control the car when it’s sliding, it will stop you crashing.” Before jokingly adding: “I should know!”

Izzy was quick to agree with her dad, exclaiming: “You really should know!” She then quipped: “I’m actually more scared about getting in a car with you, to be honest, than you getting in a car with me.”

Richard looked stunned by his daughter’s admission, as he replied: “I’m a little hurt.” Izzy began to respond, but the pair were interrupted as they arrived to Phil Price Rally School in Wales.

They then got into a red Subaru, as Richard gave his daughter a very speedy tour in the rally car. The duo could be seen wearing crash helmets, as Izzy looked very nervous, and even screamed, as the car slipped sideways in the mud.

Izzy brutally told Richard that she needed lessons from a “pro” at the school, as her dad was too busy having fun in the car to teach her anything. Fortunately, the presenter relented and eventually agreed with his daughter, who went on to have a training session with an instructor.

It comes after Richard cheated death in a 120mph electric supercar accident while filming Amazon Prime Video show The Grand Tour. The star, who works on the series alongside James May and Jeremy Clarkson, was in the vehicle when it plunged 100ft and flipped over, back in 2017.

The accident left him with injuries including a broken leg and knee injury. He was pictured using crutches in the aftermath of the crash.

Initially, Richard had to rely on an electric wheelchair to get out and about, after being airlifted to a hospital in St Gallen, where he was treated for his injuries from the crash. His co-host Jeremy described the terrifying moment as the “biggest crash I ever saw”.

He crashed in Hemberg, Switzerland, but narrowly managed to escape from the burning car before it burst into flames, becoming a fireball.

In 2006, while filming BBC’s Top Gear, Richard crashed a Vampire Dragster at nearly 320mph and was put into a coma for a fortnight. His daughter Izzy was only five-years-old at the time of the accident.
