Royal fans left confused after Kate is missing at Commonwealth reception

Kate Middleton was absent from the Buckingham Palace reception following this year’sCommonwealth Day Service – leaving manyroyal fans scratching their heads.

The Princess of Wales, 41, looked typically stunning for the service at Westminster Abbey on Monday afternoon in a navy skirt and a matching peplum top, along with a wide-brimmed hat.

The outfit brought back memories of the iconic white and navy polka dot outfit worn by her late mother-in-law,Princess Diana, at the royal box at Ascot in 1988.

Royal watchers were keen to see what elegant outfit Princess Kate would go for at the evening reception that followed the service but she did not attend – the only senior remember of The Firm to be absent.

Fans took to Twitter to air their confusion, with one writing: “Why didn't Kate attend the reception party after the service?”

It has been reported that an initial press release from the Palace said Kate was due to be at the reception. But it is understood that this was a mistake and the Princess was not actually scheduled to attend.

It is thought that Kate was instead at home with her three childrenPrince George,Princess Charlotte andPrince Louis.

Prince William and the Princess of Wales are said to be hands-on parents – trying to do the school run themselves when possible in a bid to give their young family stability.

Kate, meanwhile, is a well-known advocate for the importance of early years development – which was the focus of herShaping Uscampaign.

And she has previously spoken of how she likes to enjoy the “simple things” with her family.

Speaking on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast, she said: “I remember that from my childhood – doing the simple things, going for a walk together, and that’s really what I try and do with my children as well because it totally strips away all the complications, all the pressures.”

The theme for this year's Commonwealth Day was ‘Forging a Sustainable and Peaceful Common Future’.

Using the theme as inspiration,King Charles told the congregation: “Whether on climate change and biodiversity loss, youth opportunity and education, global health or economic co-operation, the Commonwealth can play an indispensable role in the most pressing issues of our time.

“Ours is an association not just of shared values, but of common purpose and joint action.

“In this we are blessed with the ingenuity and imagination of a third of the world’s population, including one and a half billion people under the age of 30.

“Our shared humanity contains an immensely precious diversity of thought, culture, tradition and experience. By listening to each other, we will find so many of the solutions that we seek.”

A body language expert said that the King appeared to be “impatient” during the service – with his sister-in-law Sophie stepping in tobreak the ice with a PDA.

Meanwhile, some royal fans were leftdisappointed that William and Kate’s children George, Charlotte and Louis were absent from the occasion.
