King Charles III’s Coronation has created growing anticipation over the last few weeks as details were finalised and the guest list was confirmed – with many well-known faces set to attend the historic ceremony.
Russell Crowe, 59, however, is one of the Hollywood stars who will not be present at the event and has explained why it may be he was not invited following his first time meeting the Royal Family.
The Gladiator actor recently looked back on the time he met King Charles III, who was then-Prince, back in 2003 in the “obligatory conga line of cast introductions”.
Explaining his experience in a tweet, Crowe admitted saying the words “your highness” is “not in my DNA” as he also admitted to calling Princes Harry and William “mate”.
Speaking to Dan Anstey on Triple M Breakfast Brisbane, Crowe discussed the encounter further, saying: “It’s probably due to the last time I was introduced to royalty.
“The equerry [an officer of the British royal household], he comes to talk to you and then goes, ‘Listen, when you talk to a prince, you refer to them as this, this, this and this.’”
The Hollywood star continued: “The thing is, that’s just not in my DNA. I’m always respectful and I’m always very pleased to meet people, but the ‘your highness’ thing, it’s just not in my nature.
“I called Prince Harry and William ‘mate’. I thought the equerry was going to pass out.”
King Charles is set to be crowned on Saturday in a Coronation service that will be attended by royalty and influential politicians from the UK and across the world – including Dame Joanna Lumley to Amanda Holden.
Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, 75, is confirmed to be attending King Charles’s ceremony, after composing the monarch’s Coronation anthem, while Sir Bryn Terfel, 57, will be attending to sing a Welsh language song during the ceremony.

Other composers attending include Sarah Class, Judith Weir, CBE, Roderick Williams, OBE, and Debbie Wiseman, MBE, after being personally commissioned by the King to shape the musical programme for the service.
EastEnders actress and Strictly Come Dancing 2021 winner Rose Ayling-Ellis, 28, is also attending as a mentor on Sing for the King: The Search for a Coronation Choir. The star has been busy coaching an all-deaf sign performance group for the event.
Strictly Come Dancing judge Motsi Mabuse, 42, will be present at the Coronation after working with Ayling-Ellis, Amanda Holden, and famous choirmaster Gareth Malone to prepare the choir for the service.
