Sarah Beeny, 51, admits cancer diagnosis allowed her to open her ‘box of demons’ and take a ‘look inside’ as she gives a health update
Sarah Beeny has opened up of the effects of her cancer diagnosis and has expressed how ‘lucky’ and ‘fortunate’ she feels after completing her treatment.
The popular TV presenter, 51, revealed the news of her breast cancer diagnosis in August 2022 and underwent a double mastectomy and treatment.
Appearing on BBC Breakfast on Monday, she explained how grateful she was, saying: ‘I’m really lucky. I had a very lucky diagnosis, I’m lucky to live in the UK and I’m lucky have the NHS. Lucky to be the age I am, so many things I’m grateful for to be honest.’
Sarah went on to talk about how the cancer had impacted her, saying that she was still the same person.
She said: ‘I was diagnosed with cancer a year ago, and honestly it didn’t really change me at all.

Opening up: Appearing on BBC Breakfast on Monday, she explained how grateful she was and talked about how the cancer had impacted her, saying that she was still the same person
‘I mean it did obviously, because I had to go through treatment. But I would hate to think I’m a different person now.’
She admitted: ‘I’m probably a lot less nervous of cancer now, because it was like the big bad wolf and now I’m like you just deal with it.
‘The earlier the diagnosis the better the outcome so you just need to get to the doctor quick.
‘Treatment is amazing compared to 40 years ago and in 40 years time it really will be nothing.’
Sarah then explained that actually having to go through cancer allowed her to face her own fears, and that she felt ‘fortunate’ to now be able to move on.
She said: ‘I feel quite fortunate that I’ve opened that box of demons and had a look inside. I mean they’re not exactly pretty but I can shut it now.’
She revealed her diagnosis in an interview with The Telegraph in August, revealing that she had always suspected she would be diagnosed with the disease after her mother Ann died of cancer at the age of 39 when Sarah was just 10-years-old.
Sarah shares four sons Billy, 18, Charlie, 16, Rafferty, 14, and Laurie, 12, with her husband of 19 years Graham Swift and cites them as her motivation for going public with her diagnosis.

Graham and the boys have formed a band together called Entitled Sons and recently played at Glastonbury festival.
Discussing her relationship with her children, Sarah said: ‘I look back at the relationship with my mum and dad and it’s probably shaped my relationship with my four sons.
‘They’ve got a band with my husband which is really flying. And I think my relationship with them has been coloured by my childhood.
‘I’m immensely proud of them. I do pinch myself and think how did I end up here.
‘They won a competition to play at Glastonbury this year and I was at Glastonbury thinking, “Did I deserve this, how did I get so jammy?” So I am very fortunate.’
