Shortest-lived celeb romances as Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez split

From Kim Kardashian’s 72-day marriage to Britney Spears’ 55-hour union: A look at the shortest-lived celebrity marriages as Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez split after two years

Ariana Grande and her husband Dalton Gomez have gone their separate ways after just two years of marriage.

The singer, 30, and the estate agent, 27, have been separated since January 2023 and are now heading for divorce, an insider told DailyMail.com earlier this week.

Ariana has deleted their May 2021 wedding snaps from her Instagram and has been spotted out-and-about ring-less in recent days, after her representatives confirmed the split.

They made the decision to part ways around two years after their wedding day, following in the footsteps of whirlwind celebrity marriages that sadly didn’t stand the test of time.

From Britney Spears and Jason Alexander’s 55-hour marriage, to Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries 72-day union, MailOnline takes a look at all the short-lived celebrity romances.

BRITNEY SPEARS AND JASON ALEXANDER – 55 HOURS

Britney Spears and Jason Alexander were childhood friends and tied the knot on a whim in the early morning hours on January 3, 2004.

The pair were just 22 years old at the time and had an intimate ceremony at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

However, their marriage was annulled a mere 55 hours later, and their short-lived union has now become infamous.

Jason later alleged that their annulment was forced by Britney’s mother Lynne and the star’s management.

Following the annulment, Britney said in an interview: ‘It was me being silly, being rebellious.’

In June 2022, Alexander crashed Britney’s wedding to Sam Asghari, hours before the nuptials – resulting in his arrest and conviction for trespassing and battery.

Eleven months after crashing the nuptials, Jason himself got remarried to Rebecca Bell on March 27, 2023.

NICOLAS CAGE AND ERIKA KOIKE – FOUR DAYS

Nicolas Cage and his fourth wife Erika Koike tied the knot in Las Vegas on March 23, 2019, after a year of dating.

However, there appeared to be problems with the union almost immediately and hours after the wedding, they were seen fighting outside the Bellagio hotel.

Just four days later, Nicolas filed legal documents seeking an annulment of his marriage to Erika, who also agreed that it was a ‘mistake’.

Erika later opposed Nick’s hope to annul their marriage and made a claim for spousal support. TMZ claimed that Nicolas was unable to get the annulment but managed to get a divorce.

Nicolas had claimed the union was based on fraud, because Erika didn’t disclose her criminal history and her relationship with another person.

However, Erika claimed that her reputation had been damaged by Nicolas and she had lost out on career opportunities, also claiming his allegations that the marriage was based on fraud were false.

Three months after their wedding and their split, the former couple were officially granted a divorce on May 31, 2019, after Nicolas claimed he was ‘too drunk’ to marry.

DREW BARRYMORE AND JEREMY THOMAS – AROUND 40 DAYS

Drew Barrymore first tied the knot at the age of 19 in 1994, but the marriage to bartender Jeremy Thomas lasted less than six weeks.

Their whirlwind romance started when she met then-31-year-old Jeremy at an LA bar they owned, and they decided to get married after just six weeks of dating.

The couple married on March 20, 1994, but officially split just six weeks later, and their divorce was finalised in 1995.

‘Usually people live together first and then get married,’ Drew told People just after their wedding. ‘I guess we’re doing it the old-fashioned way. Kind of.’

Speaking to Rolling Stone in 1995 after their split, Drew said: ‘We were married for six weeks, and we were only together for, like, two days of it. It was such a joke.’

Drew’s second wedding in 2001 to her Charlie’s Angels co-star Tom Green fell apart nearly as quickly and the pair split after five months.

She then wed art consultant Will Kopelman in 2012 but the pair decided to go their separate ways in 2016 after three years together. They share two daughters, Frankie and Olive.

KIM KARDASHIAN AND KRIS HUMPHRIES – 72 DAYS

Kim Kardashian was married to basketball player Kris Humphries for a short-lived 72 days back in 2011.

They started dating in October 2010 and got engaged in May 2011, before tying the knot a few months later in a whirlwind romance.

Their wedding preparations were broadcast to millions of viewers on Kim’s Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event, before the big day in August 2011.

However, Kim then filed for divorce from Kris just 72 days later, citing irreconcilable differences.

The pair have both since opened up about their whirlwind romance, with Kim telling how Kris had asked for an annulment because he didn’t want a marriage ‘on his record’.

‘If I was mature, I would have wanted the annulment too,’ Kim said as she reflected on their brief marriage in June 2021.

She also told how she owed Kris an apology for not breaking up with him very nicely as she spoke to Andy Cohen on a Keeping Up With The Kardashians reunion.

‘I just didn’t know how to deal,’ she said, adding that she tried calling him for months afterwards.

Kim said she knew by the time they got to Italy for the honeymoon that it was not going to work out, admitting she thought she had made the ‘wrong decision’.

She told how she felt pressure to tie the knot because she didn’t want to ‘let everyone down’ and described the honeymoon as ‘miserable’.

‘If you have cold feet then it’s not it,’ she added.

Meanwhile, Kris admitted in a March 2019 essay that it bothers him when people describe his marriage to Kim as ‘fake’.

He wrote: ‘There’s definitely a lot about that world that is not entirely real. But our actual relationship was 100 per cent real.’

NICOLAS CAGE AND LISA MARIE PRESLEY – 107 DAYS

Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley got married in 2002 before splitting just four months later.

They first met at a party in 2000, when Lisa was engaged to musician John Oszajca, but she broke off their romance and began dating the Hollywood actor.

Nicolas has told how he was ‘thunderstruck’ when she met her at the party, and their whirlwind relationship was marked by highs followed by tumultuous fights, along with rumours that Nicolas intended to buy her father Elvis’ Graceland mansion.

They married in 2002, but after a mere 108 days filed for divorce and Lisa described the relationship as a ‘wild ride’ in a 2003 interview with Rolling Stone.

She said: ‘You can’t have a temper tantrum and then call me four days later and expect, you know, everything to be fine again … so, it was like that … We were both like two 12-year-olds in a sandbox, basically.’

‘We’re both so dramatic and dynamic that when it was good, it was unbelievably good, and when it was bad, it was just a f**king b****y nightmare for everybody.’

Despite the famously short marriage, it would take nearly two years for them to finalize their divorce.

Nicolas paid tribute to his late ex-wife in January following her tragic death aged 54, telling how he was ‘heartbroken’ by the news of her passing.

He said: ‘This is devastating news. Lisa had the greatest laugh of anyone I ever met ‘She lit up every room, and I am heartbroken.’

DENNIS RODMAN AND CARMEN ELECTRA – FIVE MONTHS

Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra started dating in 1998 and tied the knot in November of that year in Las Vegas.

After their whirlwind wedding, NBA star Dennis filed for an annulment just nine days later, claiming he was of unsound mind during the ceremony.

However, the pair later briefly reconciled before officially divorcing in March 1999, around 130 days after their wedding ceremony.

Dennis opened up about his brief marriage to model Carmen in his autobiography I Should Be Dead By Now earlier this year, telling how their romance was ‘unreal’.

‘With Carmen it was different. It was nice to be with someone waiting for the right time, right place, right time,’ Rodman explained.

Revealing the details of one specific date, he reveals: ‘We went to eat sushi, we came home, we lay on the bed and we looked at each other and we talked, we talked, we talked.

‘She was there four or five days, sleeping in my house, in my bed, and we never made love. It was something unreal.’

Carmen has also recalled the ups and downs of their relationship over the years, telling how he would disappear for days on end, usually while he was partying.

‘There were those moments of ‘Where’s Dennis?’ Electra recalled. ‘Other team members would worry when he would run off and they couldn’t find him.

‘There were times when all of us would go to a few bars and then we all would try to get Dennis to go back to the hotel. He would just run away and leave us. There was nothing we could do.’

Kim went on to tie the knot with Kanye West in 2014 before their split last year, while Kris has not remarried since.

JENNIFER LOPEZ AND CRIS JUDD – NINE MONTHS

Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd memorably met in late 2000 when he was hired to dance in her music video for Love Don’t Cost A Thing.

Their whirlwind relationship moved very quickly and the two were married September 29, 2001.

However, their romance didn’t last very long and they split up in June 2002, just nine months after their wedding. The divorce became official the following year.

In 2019, actor Cris told how he was ‘so far removed’ from his relationship with Jennifer but wished her well.

In a video published by TooFab, Cris said of his ex-wife: ‘Man, I’m so far removed from her.’

‘I have, gosh, you know, I just wish her the best,’ he added.

In June 2019, Jennifer also told how her marriage to Cris ‘doesn’t count’, dismissing her marriage due to how brief it was in a YouTube video.

She also discounted her union to first husband Ojani Noa, who she was equally married to for just nine months in 1998.

She shared: ‘I’ve never been married in a church and I’ve been married three times, and once was nine months and once was 11 months, so I don’t really count those.’

Jennifer went on to marry Marc Anthony in 2014 and they were together for seven years before their split in 2011. She has since reunited with former fiance Ben Affleck and the pair tied the knot last year.

Cris went on to marry Kelly A. Wolfe in Laguna Beach, California, in November 2009 and they had a daughter, Vivienne, together in September 2013.
