Emma Weymouth discusses health battle during pregnancy
Strictly Come Dancing 2019 star Emma Weymouth struggled to hold back tears before embracing model Abbey Clancy as she opened up on her terrifying health battle during pregnancy – one which she’s unsure if she’ll ever “recover” from.
Talking to Abbey Clancy on her Celebrity Homes show, the 37-year-old confided that something had gone severely wrong with her pituitary gland.
“When I was pregnant, I had these severe headaches to the point where I was lying in bed on my side braced in pain, in agony, like [there was] a knife in my head. I was in so much pain,” she winced.
“My pituitary gland had swollen up and had had a bleed, so that’s why it was so painful – and obviously your pituitary gland is a master gland, so the longer it’s swollen up, the longer it’s inflamed and malfunctioning, the more dangerous it is for you.”
Emma continued that she’d feared for the life of her baby, while medics were concerned about her personally.

“I’m trying to save my baby and they’re really trying to save me and it was a whole emotionally terrifying thing,” she recalled, laughing hysterically for a moment before apologising and trying to stop herself from crying.
Covering her hands with her eyes, she exclaimed: “I don’t wanna cry and ruin my lovely makeup, but… it’s all good to share those stories because in sharing, someone shares back!”
Abbey, who is also 37, looked concerned as she mused: “People take it for granted how easy it is to have kids.”
Emma concluded: “I don’t think I’ll ever recover from my pregnancy illness actually – that’s why I’m so grateful [for my child]. Life is so precious.”

The pituitary gland is a small pea-sized gland found at the base of a person’s brain, which controls various hormones affecting functions such as human growth and metabolism.
According to the MedScape website, it usually increases in size during pregnancy due to an elevated blood supply, but its function tends to remain normal.
In Emma’s case, it didn’t – and rare conditions such as hypophysitis, which she was diagnosed with, can cause severe pain and ill health.
Pacific Pituitary Disorders Centre clarifies that hypophysitis “typically results in varying degrees of pituitary gland failure”.
The experience, which took place during her first pregnancy with son John in 2014, was so difficult that she was advised it would be too dangerous to attempt another natural birth.
For that reason, her second child, Henry, was born via surrogate in 2016.
She shares her kids with husband Ceawlin, the Viscount of Weymouth and they now live surrounded by 1,000 animals beside the Longleat Safari Park.
Son John will one day inherit the sprawling 10,000 acre spot – and in his younger years, Emma joked he’d learnt how to roar as a result of hearing both the real-life lions and animatronic dinosaurs.
Career-wise, Emma is a presenter and chef, known for her appearances on Saturday Kitchen, while she was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing alongside pro partner Aljaz Skorjanec back in 2019.
