Strictly Come Dancing contestant Tony Adams had already been amusing fans since the moment of his Full Monty performance, when he strutted on the stage topless in just a pair of red sequin shorts. The routine had been branded “entertaining” rather than technically competent by Shirley Ballas, but that didn’t change the fact that the former footballer has his fans’ full support as he grapples with his moves – and some were in stitches when he posted his latest dance mishap.
“I’m not sure how @craigrevel and @shirleyballas would have marked this from rehearsals!” Tony joked to his 157,000 Instagram followers as he shared a snippet from his routine.
“Come ON, I clearly nailed the New Yorker,” he reasoned with fans, before Katya laughingly corrected that it was called “the New York”.
“Kat does her best to replace the @mattgoss bum slap in her own inimitable style: What a Saturday!” Tony exclaimed, referring to the part of their act when pro dancer Katya Jones stood behind him and rhythmically slapped his bottom several times.
He added in explanation of the blunder: “[She] tells me I went off too quick – so excited to channel my inner Des Lynam and David Coleman!”

Thanking fans for their “love and support”, he concluded: “Really so thrilled to still be in this extraordinary show: bring on spoooooky times and halloween.” (sic)
@sherriesilver laughed: “This bum of yours has gone through a lot! Slapped every week!”
@harrysurplus excused the moment when Tony fell down with his legs in the air, and assured him the judges would have loved his performance, quipping: “I’m sure it would have been 10s all round Tony.”
However, @jjwooley argued: “I thought they were harsh this week and the full Monty week – talked all about the comedy yet you did some good moves too! Others did less and got more marks.”
@alborns marvelled: “The change in you had been nothing short of inspiring. Not just the obvious improvements in your dancing abilities but also, possibly more impressive, your whole demeanour. You seem more relaxed, enjoying it more in a way. Keep it up.”
@sam_a_base chimed in: “Making all of us Arsenal’s fans proud skipper. Keep going mate!”
@juliaannable then wrote: “Oh Tony – We’ve all fallen a teeny bit in love with you.”
Though tears of laughter emojis made it only clear how fans felt when he made a wrong move, it was also clear that he had a generous dose of encouragement and support too.

His latest post comes after TV presenter Ulrika Jonsson publicly denied his claims that he’d “rejected” her advances in favour of model Caprice.
Quotes from Tony’s autobiography Sober, which celebrated his abstinence from alcohol which he has maintained since 2000, stated that he felt like a “king” dating supermodel Caprice, but that he was much less interested in Ulrika.
He claimed that she had slipped her number in his pocket but that he had turned down the prospect of a date with her.
Talking of how he had met both the women on a TV show led by his former team-mate Ian Wright years ago, he wrote of Ulrika: “I was flattered but I had no desire to follow up her interest.
“I was more interested in Caprice, who was Ian’s sidekick on the show and who made it plain she was attracted to me.”
Yet Ulrika chuckled on Instagram: “Laughing my t**s off at this. Never, ever met the bloke. Maybe he was dreaming.”
That said, in her Sun column she had added that she was “partial to a bit of Tony Adams”, especially due to his “honesty” when battling his alcohol addiction demons.
Meanwhile, fans can tune in to see more of Tony and his pro sidekick Katya this Saturday at 6:30pm on BBC One.
