Trusted star frontrunner to replace Schofield after ITV bosses change mind

Ben Shephard shares he has dreams of being naked

Ben Shephard is said to be the “frontrunner” to take over from Phillip Schofield on This Morning.

The presenter is said to be “trusted by the public” while having a “great rapport” with Holly Willoughby.

It comes just days after the 48-year-old hosted the ITV daytime series alongside the star, 42.

The Mail has claimed that “bosses have changed their minds and want someone they can team Holly with most days”.

The mother-of-three has been fronting the programme with rotating co-hosts since Phillip, 61, quit in May.

He left This Morning and ITV after admitting to an affair with a younger male colleague.

His spot has since been filled by Craig Doyle, Dermot O’Leary, Josie Gibson and Alison Hammond.

The show is said to be attempting to find a “more permanent sidekick” for Holly.

A source told the Mail: “Ben did really well and the bosses loved his partnership with Holly and there was great feedback from many avenues.

“Ben is known throughout ITV as being very popular with the audiences of whatever shows he hosts.”

They continued: “He is also trusted by the public and is much loved within ITV. He has hosted so many shows for the channel.

“He and Holly go back years too – he presented on This Morning some years ago and they have a great rapport.”

However, a spokesperson for ITV told Express.co.uk: “Ben is a much loved and popular presenter on ITV but no such decisions have been made.”

Express.co.uk has contacted a spokesperson for Ben Shephard for comment.

He was previously a stand-in presenter while covering for Phillip between 2005 and 2011.

Tipping Point star Ben already hosts Good Morning Britain with Susanna Reid or Kate Garraway, appearing more frequently after Piers Morgan left in 2021.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
