S Club 7 were heartbroken on Friday after it was announced Paul Cattermole had died aged just 46.

The band, who formed in 1998, were one of the biggest pop phenomenon’s selling millions of records with their smash hits Reach, Bring It All Back and Never Had A Dream Come True.

Paul’s sudden death has rocked fans and the tragedy comes just weeks after the band revealed they were reforming for an 11-date tour of the UK, 20 years after they split.

His cause of death has yet to be revealed but there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his passing.

In the two decades that have passed since we last saw the band, many members have faced personal struggles – from Hannah Spearritt becoming homeless last Christmas to Paul being declared bankrupt in 2015 and Rachel Stevens announcing last year that her 13 years marriage had ended.

Here we take a look at the highs and lows of the lives of band members Paul,  Rachel, 44, Tina Barrett, 46, Jon Lee, 40, Bradley McIntosh, 41, Jo O’Meara, 43, and Hannah, 42 in the last 20 years.

S Club 7 star Paul was found dead at his home in Dorset on Thursday and there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his passing.

The news is said to have come as a ‘shock’ to his fellow bandmembers, including his ex-girlfriend Hannah who has been left ‘inconsolable’.

A statement released by his family read: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son and brother Paul Cattermole.

‘Paul was found yesterday, 6th April 2023 at his home in Dorset and was pronounced dead later that afternoon.’

It continued: ‘While the cause of death is currently unknown, Dorset Police has confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances.

‘Paul’s family, friends and fellow members of S Club request privacy at this time.’

Tragic news: While his cause of death has not been revealed, the band’s manager reportedly said that there were ‘no suspicious circumstances’

The band paid tribute to Paul on Twitter, writing: ‘We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul.

‘There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel. We were so lucky to have had him in our lives and are thankful for the amazing memories we have.

‘He will be so deeply missed by each and every one of us. We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and of the band at this time.’

A source close to Paul’s ex-girlfriend and bandmate Hannah told MailOnline: ‘She is absolutely devastated.

‘Hannah is inconsolable. This came as a massive shock, and she is struggling to believe he is no longer with us.

‘Just as they rekindled their friendship, the worst happened. The band are all in pieces.

‘They were all looking forward to the reunion tour and reliving their amazing memories together. Paul has and always will be a huge part of Hannah’s journey. Right now, she is just beside herself.’

So sad: Paul pictured in February

Paul’s sudden death has rocked fans and the tragedy comes just weeks after the band revealed they were reforming for an 11-date tour of the UK, 20 years after they split.

The tragic news comes shortly after Paul and ex-girlfriend Hannah rekindled their friendship and called an end to their seven-year feud.

Hannah and Paul’s friendship predates the creation of the noughties group after they became friends in their teens at the National Youth Music Theatre.

They first kept their romance private with Paul later revealing he would sneak to and from Hannah’s house in the early hours of the morning to avoid being spotted by fans. They split in 2006.

They appeared to reunite in June 2015 after being spotted kissing on the tube, but split in November of that year.

In 2002, Paul sent shockwaves through S Club 7’s global fanbase when he spectacularly announced he was quitting the group citing ‘creative differences’.

He had a rocky road after leaving the band, becoming bankrupt in 2015 and even putting his Brit Award up for sale on eBay saying: ‘There’s bills to pay’.

Paul admitted to trying to sign up to reality shows like I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and Dancing On Ice but was told he wasn’t ‘famous enough’.

He then appeared on Loose Women in 2018 where he admitted he had run out of money and had to borrow a shirt for the show.

In 2019 Paul made an emotional appearance on the dating show First Dates Hotel.

The star went on a date with music lover Anna but after being let down gently, sobbed on camera and asked for a ‘moment’ to pull himself together.

During the date, Paul, who has previously claimed he was contractually forced to date fellow bandmate Hannah during the height of their fame in the noughties, reminisced about his days as a pop star.

Paul told Anna: ‘I don’t tend to bring up on a date that I have been in a pop group. It’s not the thing I want to shout about.

‘I ended up being in the group for six years. I did leave before the end, I was feeling like I was losing myself and I wasn’t very happy at all.

‘I had the balls to say, “guys I’ve got to go,” but not one of them said but then split in 2006.

Last year his ex bandmate Tina Barrett said: ‘I’m always here for Paul. It is hard when you see someone you’ve worked with look like they’re struggling.’

Paul launched a career as a YouTube tarot card reader, asking fans to give him donations.

He created a YouTube channel called Tarot Me This, where he gave regular readings.

Financial issues: He then appeared on Loose Women in 2018 where he admitted he had run out of money and had to borrow a shirt for the show

He wrote: ‘You may recognise me from Tv or Music or Theatre, I have had a long and varied career in Performing arts.

‘I now spend most of my time making online content of all different types, Clairvoyance Sorcery Soothsaying and Necromancy are now my main gigs.’

RACHEL STEVENS

Rachel was reportedly offered a six-figure solo record deal after the band split, and released hit song Sweet Dreams My LA Ex.

She also put out tracks More More and Some Girls to great success before her solo career came to an end after her second album in 2005.

Rachel then appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2008 where she made it all the way to end, and came in second place.

She was also a guest mentor on The X Factor in New Zealand in 2013  and appeared on both Celebrity Masterchef and Celebrity Mastermind in 2017.

In 2019, Rachel joined the cast of theatre show Rip It Up The 70s alongside Louis Smith, Melody Thornton and Lee Ryan.

She joined Dancing On Ice in 2022, where she was the third celebrity to be eliminated.

She married her childhood sweetheart Alex Bourne in 2009 and they share daughters Minnie and Amelie.

However, Rachel announced their shock split in July 2022 on Instagram.

She told The Sun of the split: ‘It’s very hard to articulate the feelings, because there are so many. It’s been really painful, really sad. It’s been the biggest decision to make in our lives, obviously, with our kids.’

‘Our split is very amicable and that’s really helping. It’s only the last two weeks that we’ve not been living together. That was definitely difficult. We’re doing it with love and respect, but it’s a process.

‘It’s taken a lot of navigating. We are going to mess up and make mistakes. But we are acknowledging that to them, and I feel so lucky.’

HANNAH SPEARRITT

Hannah abandoned her music career after S Club 7 split up and focused on her acting career instead.

She starred in the films Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London and Seed of Chucky.

Hannah then landed a lead role in ITV’s Primeval playing Abby Maitland for five seasons.

Hannah has also appeared on stage, performing in shows such as One Man, Two Guvnors and The Armour.

She began dating her Primeval co-star Andrew-Lee Potts 2008 but they separated in 2013.

That same year, she underwent breast implant surgery that left her suffering from chronic fatigue, memory loss and hair loss, as well as depression and anxiety.

After finally getting the implants removed in 2016, she recovered and released a documentary about the experience called: ‘Hannah Spearritt: Me & Breast Implants’.

She then joined the cast of Casualty, before being cast as Kandice Taylor – the younger sister of established character Karen Taylor – in EastEnders in 2017.

Hannah began dating Adam Thomas in 2013. They briefly broke up in 2015 before reuniting in 2018.

They then welcomed two daughters together named Taya, four, and Tora, one.

Hannah recently detailed her struggle with homelessness, admitting she was living in an office with her two young children; Tea, four, and Tora, two, over Christmas.

The singer had to seek refuge in a friend’s office after not wanting to pay ‘crazy’ rental prices upfront. They have been in four temporary homes within the last six months and are still without one of their own.

She told The Sun: ‘The kids’ beds were there and we had the crayons out. It was stressful. Our landlord needed the money and the property sold so fast. We ended up with under two days to leave.

‘What screwed us is we didn’t have time to find another place. We had somewhere over Christmas but ran out of time before we could move in. It was just a couple of weeks. We filled the unopened café with our belongings — we were so lucky to have that storage space — but had nowhere to go.

‘We were allowed to stay in our friend’s office. We just used it as our living room. We could work in there and the kids played. It was extra space. The kids’ beds were there and we had the crayons out. The climbing frame was up; it was fun for them. It was stressful but you deal with it, don’t you? Especially with the kids. Whatever doesn’t break you, as they say.’

She is now in the process of setting up her own holistic wellness café in South West London.
