A royal insider has offered up the solution to fixing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s rift with the rest of the royal family—or a first step for it, anyway.
According to The Sun, the big moment that cemented the Sussexes’ royal feud was the couple’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, which Prince William and Kate Middleton reportedly felt “crossed a line.” And before Will and Kate can start the process of healing their relationship with Harry and Meghan, they think “someone should acknowledge the motives behind” the interview, a royal source explained.
“They feel they’ve had to be steely to send a message that you cannot just say this hugely upsetting stuff without there being consequences,” the source told The Telegraph.
This anonymous royal tea comes in the wake of what many royal fans saw as a first step toward Will and Harry repairing their bond when the brothers and their wives stepped out together in Windsor to greet well-wishers and mourners after the Queen’s death.
The Fab Four’s public reunion was reportedly Will’s idea, but a royal source revealed after the walkabout that the decision to include Harry and Meghan was not an easy one for the new Prince of Wales.
“In the end, [William] elected to [invite them] because it was agreed amongst all of them that this very much the appropriate thing to do,” a royal source told Us Weekly. “For all of their differences in the past, many of which still linger, this was what the Queen would have wanted and William knew very well that it was no time to be holding onto grudges or distancing himself from his brother. They needed to put on a united front and pay their respects for her sake as well as the monarchy as a whole and the people she served so tirelessly during her reign.”
So, tl;dr the royal rift is still very much a thing, apparently.
