Zac Efron fans were quick to rush to social media and comment on his noticeably changed face, with many assuming he had plastic surgery. The actor has now revealed that it was in fact the result of an injury that caused his looks to differ.

The 34-year-old Baywatch star recalled how he shattered his jaw while running with socks on in his house and hit the corner of a fountain.

The incident caused the actor to pass out and, once he gained consciousness, woke up to his chin bone “hanging off” his face.

Zac said that while recovering from the ordeal, his masseter muscles on the inside of his face and jaw got “really big”.

Following this, he worked with a specialist who does physical therapy to try and mediate the growth.

Of the rumours, Zac told Men’s Health Magazine that he wasn’t fazed about what other people thought of him.

“If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work,” he spilled.

The High School Musical star said he was initially oblivious to the attention it had gained, until his mother called to ask him if he had gone under the knife.

Rumours first began in April 2021 when a picture of him displaying a more squared jawline.

At the time he was promoting his role in Earth Day! The Musical.

As attention about his appearance surfaced the internet, Zac’s friend Kyle Sandilands shut down the accusations on his radio show with Jackie O.

He said: “I would know if he’d had any plastic surgery,” adding it would’ve been silly of the actor to go under the knife, due to his natural good looks.

He added: “It’s like getting a Picasso and having a kid finger paint all over it. Why bother?”

In the same interview with the publication, the actor also revealed he had stopped following a vegan diet.

Zac changed his ways after two years claiming his body “wasn’t processing the vegetables in the right way”.

He has now introduced all foods back into his diet and is attempting intermittent fasting.

His current plan consists of following a protein heavy diet and eating two meals a day.

Elsewhere, the actor has been promoting his latest movie The Greatest Beer Run, based on the book of the same name.

His brother Dylan Efron said he was “proud” of his sibling, adding it’s his “best work yet”.
