WHEN it comes to using dishwashers, lots of people just chuck everything in and hope for the best.
But did you know there are actually five things you should never put in yours?
According to a TikTok video shared by the eco experts at Tru Earth, the first item to avoid putting in the dishwasher is wood – like wooden spoons and chopping boards.
While they didn't go into further details, the reason wood is so affected by the dishwasher is because the high heat and moisture often leads to it warping, splintering and breaking.
The next thing is non-stick pans – the water pressure, salt and washing machine tablets can end up damaging the coating.

It's a much better idea to hand wash anything copper with warm water and a gentle washing up liquid.
Hand washing is also much better for your cooking knives, as putting them in the dishwasher can lead to the edges becoming blunt.
