How to get rid of dandruff for good – and other common head problems, from the experts | The Sun

A GOOD hair day can make all the difference to how confident you feel.

But issues like dandruff or hair thinning can make us want to hide away and never step foot outside again.

Fortunately, haircare experts from Fresha, an online service connecting customers to salons, have revealed three easy solutions to the most common hair problems and it'll take your locks from damaged and itchy to shiny in one wash.

And the best part is that these easy hacks you can do at home cost as little as 50p to do using items you'll have in the kitchen cupboard.

Dandruff

While most cases of dandruff aren't harmful, it can really knock your confidence.

No one wants to be itching their head all day and scratching your scalp can lead to sore and inflamed skin.

You may have seen rosemary oil go viral on social media, and for good reason.

The Fresha Salon owners say: "Rosemary oil increases blood flow to the hair follicles, delivering the right nutrients and oxygen to the hair.

"This helps reduce inflammation, which can cause dandruff, actively stimulates hair growth, and prevents hair loss."

When using rosemary oil, it's important to dilute it with a carrier oil, such as caster oil as undiluted essential oils can cause irritation otherwise.

To use the multipurpose oil, put it in a spray with one cup of caster oil and 5-10 drops of rosemary oil.

Spray to the scalp and massage it in and leave in for one hour before washing with shampoo.

Hair loss

Losing your hair and having bald patches can be terrifying.

There are plenty of causes of hair loss, from stress, genetics to even the hairstyle you wear.

However, you can prevent and even cure hair loss with a 50p hack.

Trichologist and hair loss specialist Hannah Gaboardi  says rice water works by penetrating amino acids, minerals and vitamins into each strand of hair.

“Hair growth depends on so many other factors and your hair type, but if you have a healthy diet, lifestyle and care for your hair, rice water will help you have less breakage and shedding," she told Stylist.

The experts explain: "These elements are essential for healthy hair. Another benefit of rice water is a sugar found in it called inositol prevents hair thinning, premature hair loss and shedding. "

To make rice water at home, take half a cup of rice and rinse it thoroughly before adding it to a pot.

Add two cups of water and leave it to soak for 24hours before straining the water and adding to a spray bottle.

Start by shampooing your hair twice and rinsing it out before spraying the rice water all over your scalp and letting it sit for twenty minutes.

You can then rinse out the rice water thoroughly and repeat once a week.

Oily scalp

There's nothing more annoying then washing your hair in the morning only to realise you could fry an egg on it by the end of the night.

You might have given up on sorting greasy hair or have become complacent using a can of dry shampoo every week, but you don't have to.

Apple cider vinegar is a great product that can help keep oil levels at bay.

Dermatologist Joshua Zeichner reveals it has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory elements to help stop the scalp retaining too much oil.

"Apple cider vinegar is great for balancing hair's PH levels, working right from the scalp," say the experts at Fresha.

"It can prevent and reduce build up, and it can work wonders on dandruff that can cause itching and discomfort."

You can purchase apple cider vinegar from Asda for just £1.30.
