I didn’t want to fork out £600 for a posh headboard so made it myself for a fraction of the price and it was so easy | The Sun

THE BEDROOM is arguably the most important part of any home, but forking out cash to get it just right can be hard on the wallet.

This is exactly how Sarah Betts felt until her best friend piped up to convince her they could create the exact headboard she wanted without breaking the bank… and it totally worked.

Taking to her TikTok account, the blonde beauty explained that she nearly spent a fortune on a Boucle headboard, but stopped herself at the last minute.

“I was about to spend $800 (£643) on one of these Boucle bed heads, but my best friend was convinced that he could make it himself,” she shared.

Walking through a store to pick up the base of the headboard, she shared: “So, first we got these two pieces of ply board.

“Obviously we would’ve just got one, but it wouldn’t fit in the car. So we have a bracing piece that we glued on and then also screwed in. And by ‘we’, I mean him and I supervised.”

The plywood they bought came up to $135.88 (£109), but can be found in the UK for as little as £12 from B&Q.

“I felt like rounded edges would look a little bit more luxurious,” @sarahbetts continued as she used a plate to draw out the edges of the plywood.

“We put on the protective eyewear, used the plate as a template and then cut out the edges,” she shared.

She then used wadding, which is sold at Dunelm from £5, to create a padded layer between her and the wood.

Stretching the white material across the plywood, she said: “This stuff is called wadding, it’s basically just like padding so that the headboard is really cosy and cushiony.

“And then we were so excited about the fabric because it was just so soft. So we just stapled that on.”

The Boucle fabric can be found in the UK for £18 from Dunelm.

“Once you staple on all the fabric, you’re pretty much done. And I am so impressed,” she added as the video came to an end.

In the caption, she wrote: “DIY headboard?!…”

Viewers were left impressed by her DIY headboard and flocked to the comments to gush over the project.

“That’s GORGEOUS!” one person wrote with a heart emoji.

Another shared: “Looks gorgeous and the rest of the room too very clever”. [sic]
