I gave my garden a DIY makeover – people warned me I made a key mistake, it turns out they weren’t entirely wrong | The Sun

A WOMAN and her husband have shared the budget makeover they did to their garden, but not everyone was impressed.

Summer is quickly approaching and many are looking to spruce up their garden in time for those heat waves that are bound to come.

But with the cost of living crisis in full swing, it’s impossible to find a spare few thousand to get the transformation of dreams.

Instead, people are turning to social media platforms like TikTok for inspiration on how to do it themselves on a budget.

Enter Mabe, known as ___mabe____ on the scrolling app, who gave her garden a makeover using just four steps.

“This is how we did the little crosswalk,” she wrote over a clip as her husband got to work.

I kitted out my garden with cheap buys from Shein, Home Bargains, Tesco & Aldi

After placing an outline of where they wanted the walkway to be, the pair set down brown-red tiles, each spaced out evenly.

They then bought bags full of marble chips, which they placed within the lines before tidying it all up.

Once done, they sprayed it all down with water to clean up any white residue. They then shared a clip of the finished results, showing the walkway leading up to a small tent with a seating area inside.

While it looked lovely, some gardening experts couldn’t help but point out where they’d gone wrong in their project.

“It looks nice but with experience with stones, the grass is definitely going to push up through the rock,” one person wrote.

Mabe replied: “Yes we added the killing grass spray, we don’t have experience on this”.

Another said they should have added a mesh over the grass before starting the project to prevent it from growing through.

“Yeah we did it inside the cazebo but here we only added the spray to kill the grass but thank you my husband doesn’t know too much about this,” [sic] Mabe responded with a laughing emoji.

While a third said: “Should have dug up the pathway first then laid landscape fabric down lol have fun pulling that grass lol”. [sic]

But others were a little kinder in the comments as one person suggested they “get a good vegetative killer concentrate to mix up and keep it sprayed,” before adding that they’ll “be good”.
