I have a special routine when visiting sunbeds…people warn me about skin cancer but it won't stop me | The Sun

A BEAUTY fan was brutally savaged online after sharing her special tanning routine.

Some prefer their pale skin – but others, like sunbed lover Bethany Rowe (@bethany_rowe), feel their best when rocking a tan.

To achieve the golden glow, the young woman, from the UK, pops into tanning salons – but that's not all.

For the maximum bronze effect, Bethany also follows a special routine that she claimed makes all the difference – salt water.

The stunner took to TikTok to share the 'hack', which saw her spraying the water-salt concoction onto her skin whilst soaking up the harmful rays.

Recommending the trick to others, Bethany explained: ''Salt water helps remove dead skin cells from your skin and increases the UV rays/sun (if outside) hitting your skin.

''Try salt water on your next sunbed,'' she urged her 28.1k fans in the now-viral video.

But despite Bethany swearing by this beauty tip, hundreds of people on the app flocked to comments to warn her about the dangers of tanning.

They insisted that not only is she increasing the risk of skin cancer, but also ageing her skin.

Sunbeds have long been linked to skin cancer and have even been banned in countries like Brazil and Australia.

According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), there is significant evidence to show that using tanning beds causes melanoma.

They report that sunbeds increase the risk of skin cancer by up to 20 per cent, and also state that they have no positive benefits to our health.

Sharing her expertise, Carol Cooper, Sun Doctor, said: ''Let’s be clear about sunbeds. It’s not just ‘some’ experts that say they’re bad for your skin. It’s almost all of them.

''Actually, anyone who’s ever used a sunbed is at least 20% more likely to develop malignant melanoma, the deadliest skin cancer.

''UV rays damage the DNA in skin cells, so they’re more likely to mutate into cancer. You don’t even have to burn for it to happen.''

One concerned TikTok fan said: ''This seems really dangerous.''

Someone else shared their heart-breaking story, writing: ''I won’t because my dad has skin cancer.''

''Litteraly cooking yourself like a chicken [sic],'' a third joked.

''when you turn 25 you will regret it trust me. I look 27 going on 40 because wrinkles and crows feet,'' a fourth warned, urging Beth to stick to self-tanners.

However, amongst all the concerns, were also comments by those who wanted to give the hack a go themselves.
