I made a stunning discovery under my kitchen floor – I couldn't believe I'd been walking over it for 20 years | The Sun

A WOMAN has shared the amazing discovery she made under her kitchen floor.

She couldn't believe she had been walking right over it for two decades in her home.

"A little over a month ago we came across something absolutely amazing underneath our kitchen floor," the woman (@mortylad) began in her TikTok video.

"Little did we know we'd been walking under a 300-year-old water well every day for the past 20 years.

"It all started while renovating our kitchen. We wanted under floor heating so we had to pull up all of the original foundations in order to lay it," she explained.

"While removing some of the sand we came across a really strange gravelly mixture in one spot.

"Upon investigation, it turned out to be hollow and full of water."

She said that they carried on digging which led to more water.

They then came across a brick wall that was round in shape.

"Intrigued we carried on investigating and found a ring of bricks. We were pretty certain at this point that we'd found the houses original water well.

"We then made the scary decision to incorporate it into the new kitchen."

She added that the last owner also had no idea that there was ever a well on the property.

The house had been estimated to be constructed around the 1700s and it's very likely that the well was built at around the same time as the house.

"As the well got deeper we had to come up with increasingly sketchy ways to get in and out."

After ripping off the foundation on the floor, they began laying the new foundation.

Eventually, they power-washed the brick and revealed amazing craftsmanship.

"After draining, the well was filling with about eight feet of water, which was making digging very difficult," she explained.

They hit the bottom at around 17 feet, which is relatively short for a well, but on par with wells around their area.
