I regret my daughter's name, people assume she's a boy and pronounce it wrong | The Sun

CHOOSING a name for your child can be one of the toughest decisions a parent will make when they are born – and it can go wrong.

TikTok user Crystal, who posts under @uchihacrystal9, said she regretted the name of her daughter for a number of reasons.

She explained in a video she had called her girl “Akane”, but most people mispronounce it and assume she is a boy.

The mum said: “My first daughter’s name is Akane, we got her name from an Anime I used to watch as a kid.”

Crystal explained how her name is pronounced “a-karn-ay” but people mistakenly call her “a-kane” or “a-karn”.

She added: “This kid gets her name butchered all the time and they always assume she is a boy.

I couldn’t believe how my husband spelt out newborn’s name – it’s so different

“So my poor 10 year old has to spend her life telling people her name is Akane.

“Plus she’s never going to find a Coke bottle with her name on it, plus she’s never going to find a keychain with her name.”

Crystal added that her other daughter, who is aged five, also has an unusual name – Zayuri.

She explained that Zayuri’s name is pronounced with an “s” sound at the start, and people always make that mistake too.
