I renovated my 1960s’ house with B&M buys – there was carpet in the bathroom & a maroon suite, it really divided opinion | The Sun

A COUPLE have sparked quite the debate online after revealing how they gave their new home a makeover with B&M finds.

After purchasing their first-ever property, the duo, only known as Rowland Renos, decided to ditch the 1960s-inspired look and give the house a mode modern feel.

One of the rooms that also saw a jaw-dropping transformation was their living space which had originally come with an arch.

As well as the interesting wall detailing, the old living room also had a massive rug with an intricate print in various colours, beige wallpaper and short curtains by the window.

But this was not to their taste and the couple began a journey of giving the living room a glow-up.

After some work and preparation, which included shopping at B&M, the project was finally over and they proudly revealed the results on TikTok.

The arch, their video showed, had been removed and instead, they had opted for a more rectangular entrance.

Paired with some black accents, the chosen colour scheme was more neutral, with whites, greys and a beige wooden flooring.

As well as getting rid of the previous glass lamp shade, the new homeowners had installed a modern fixture with exposed light bulbs.

The sofa, too, was grey – as was the soft rug underneath it.

But whilst the two may have been pleased with the outcome, the makeover left people on social media divided.

Many, just like the couple, loved the glow-up – but others insisted that the room was lacking character.

One critic of the makeover cried: ''not them getting rid of the arch.''

Another was not particularly amazed by the colour scheme, describing it as ''grey and plain''.

Someone else agreed, commenting: ''Yea pretty basic grey and white, no taste.''

''As boring and generic as everyone else who does the same layout/style. Hard pass.'' a hater penned, while another said it looked like a ''hospital waiting room''.

Fortunately, there was also positive feedback, as some TikTok fans were obsessed with the transformation.

''Wow this looks so cosy,'' a fanatic reckoned.

''Queue the quirky people who say the original was better,'' a person joked.

Describing their property before the project, the couple revealed that the house came with a burgundy red carpet in the bathroom, wallpaper on the ceiling and timber front with no isolation.

As well as a massive hole in the roof, they also discovered the plastering was ''dodgy''.
