I slashed my energy bill by £1k and it only took an hour – here are my tips so you can try it too | The Sun

HE managed to slash his energy bill by a staggering £1,000 in just an hour.

And Gavin Ramjaun has now taken to TikTok to share his top tips on how you can do the same.

"This is how you can hack some money off your bills because it’s just going through the roof at the moment isn’t it?" the TV presenter and blogger began.

"So first thing’s first, get on the blower.

"Get on the blower to whoever it is.

"I just spent an hour to British Gas but it was worth it because I just haggled and haggled and haggled."

Gavin continued to explain that his bill had gone up by £1,000 compared to what British Gas had originally quoted him – and the Direct Debits went up by over £100 a month.

When he asked the energy company to put him on a fixed tariff, he was told there are "no fixed tariffs available".

"I went back to my initial quote and and said, 'This is what I want to pay, this is how much I can pay, this is how much I’m prepared to pay'," he continued.

"And they were like, 'Ok let’s see what we can do'."

In the end, Gavin was put on a fixed tariff.

"There are fixes out there if you just haggle," he said.

"They might say there’s none because they want to keep you on the variable which is higher.

"Never take no for an answer folks.

"Always haggle, always fight your cause and basically never give up."

He added in the caption: "I slashed by energy bills by £1k after British Gas cancelled my initial tariff and hiked my prices to over £2000 a year.

"I just insisted on paying what I can afford and what I felt was fair.

"Don’t settle for unfair rises folks – I haggled politely till I got what I wanted.

"I hope it works for anyone else."

Writing in one of the comments on the video, he said: "And just clarify – I was initially quoted on a fixed tariff which was removed for a more exp variable (2.2x).

"Will save me in the short term at least."

And others commented to add that they'd done the same to save money, with one writing: "Mine went from £72 to £156, I haggled down to £90 a month."

However, someone else argued against Gavin's video, writing: "I don’t think people get it, it’s pay as you go.

"You can pay £20 a month but at the end of the year you’ll have to pay what you used."

But Gavin hit back, responding: "Annual charge more than doubled my man. I was livid.

"Got the annual total down from 2.7 to 1.2k pa."

"What’s your unit rate and standing charge?" someone else asked.

"Or did you just get them to reduce your direct debit on your existing tariff?
