I started trying for a baby at 14 – now I’m a mum of two at 22, my family said I’d ruined my life | The Sun

A YOUNG woman has shared how she first started trying to have children at the age of just 14.

Christal, who lives with her family in Houston, is now 22 and shares two children with her 25-year-old partner Henry.

“So we’ve been together eight years and married going on three years,” Christal shared.

And when asked how old she was when she first got pregnant, she said: “I was 15, actually I was 14 when we first started trying. I think for two months we were trying to get pregnant.”

She explained that they didn’t get pregnant within those two months and then she turned 15.

On one occasion, when Henry got some McDonald’s, Christal took a bite of his burger and immediately felt the need to throw up.

Realising this was unusual for her, she took a pregnancy test and it turned out positive.

“I was happy, I guess shocked at first, but mostly happy,” she shared. “And I had her two days before my 16th birthday.”

After having her first child Isabella, who is now six, she lost a great deal of her friends. While they would occasionally check up on each other, the friendship eventually faded away.

Christal had her second child, Alahni, who is now two, at the age of 19.

She went on to explain that she’s had “a lot of hate” from trolls, with one person telling her: “You are not going to do anything in life.”

While another said: “You are going to be bad parents.”

People come up to her and share their disbelief at how young she is and how she’s “ruined her life”.

Christal then explained that she told her mum about her pregnancy within a few weeks, but waited longer to tell her dad.

“He was crying, he said I ruined my life,” Christal told Truly.

Her mum Elizabeth said she initially didn’t believe her daughter when she informed her of her pregnancy. And while upset, she eventually decided to support her in whatever decision she made.

“I thought I had failed as a parent at first,” she explained, before saying she was there for her.

Orlando, her father, didn’t take the news well at all as he said: “At first I didn’t talk to her for a couple of days and my son in law too because I’m mad, because of the situation.”

Now, years later, her parents are both supportive and very proud of Christal and the life she’s built.

“I’m happy because I have two beautiful granddaughters,” Orlando said.

After having her first child, Christal said she went back to school to prove everyone wrong, but seeing her grades go up motivated her to finish school.

“We’ll support you guys in whatever you need,” Orlando went on as Elizabeth praised them for having their own house and two daughters.

People were quick to share their opinions on their family situation as one person wrote: “These parents are literally Amazing and doing everything they can for their kids.”

Another said: “Age doesn’t determine how good of a parent you will be. But planning a baby at 14 is crazy.”

A third shared: “I have a similar story, fell in love at 14, became pregnant at 17 now we’ve been 11 years together and 6 years married with 2 kids I finished college as well,” followed by a red heart emoji.

While a fourth added: “I’m gonna say this is unusual, but I see that they’re still in love, and they are raising those girls with 2 parents, which is more than usual these days… nothing but respect for them.”
