I tested how much my weekly top-up shop would be at Aldi, Asda, Tesco & Morrisons – I was stunned at the biggest rip-off | The Sun

A KEEN bargain hunter compared the price of everyday essentials at a range of supermarkets to see which really is the best value for money – and apparently, it’s bad news for ASDA fans.

With the price of our weekly shop jumping up on a weekly basis, we’re all trying to watch our pennies.

But Sarah was left stunned when a small top-up shop cost her more than £60 at Aldi this week.

So, she decided to see if the same shop would have worked out any cheaper elsewhere – but was left stunned by the results.

She claimed that a trip to Tesco would have cost her £6 more, and ASDA would have been an extra £13.

Sarah said: “Comparing supermarket shops to make sure I am getting the best prices and value for money!

“So the other day I did a little top-up shop at Aldi, just to grab some bits.

“Couple of bits for meals, cat food, bits, and pieces.

“As you can see, there isn't really a great deal there.”

During the one-minute video, Sarah shared a glimpse at her small shop, which included an Aldi stir fry kit, soft cheese, 12 eggs, rice cakes, raw chicken, and a punnet of mushrooms.

But she was left stunned by the hefty price tag, adding: “It wasn't a big shop, it's literally to grab just little bits that were needed – and it's not like there's loads of brand names in there, mostly Aldi own.

“So that shop, even though there's not much there, cost £60.75,  which I've been going to Aldi for years and I feel like it's getting a bit steep.

“So I wanted to see what it was like in other places.”

Looking at the prices on various other supermarket websites, Sarah calculated how much the same shop would have cost her elsewhere – and claims Morrisons came out on top.

She continued: “So I had a look. Tesco would have only been £6 more expensive which shocked me.

“I thought it was gonna be a lot more expensive than Aldi but it wasn't. It weren't too bad to be fair.

“Morrisons, £69. It actually would have been cheaper because I have a discount card there, so it would have cost me about £63, which again was expecting a lot more.

“However Asda, £13 more expensive. That wasn't with more brand names, that was just what was there.”
