I transformed a £12 IKEA table into a marble masterpiece for my living room – it was so easy & looks like the real deal | The Sun

A DIY whizz has revealed how she transformed a cheap IKEA buy into the marble side table of her dreams – and it only cost her £20. 

Shayna took to TikTok to share how she gave the basic white table a major glow-up, using bargain MDF sheets and marble-printed vinyl. 


Known online as The Flipped Piece (@shaynaalnwick), the savvy content creator regularly shares speedy DIY tips and interior design inspiration with her 813,000 followers. 

In a new reel, she said: "Luxury IKEA Hack for less than £20 ($27).

“I turned this IKEA Lack table into an expensive marble dupe."

During the 24-second video, Shayna revealed how she started by wrapping the MDF sheets and the top of the table in the printed vinyl, before securing everything together using glue and a staple gun.

She continued: “I got some marble contact paper and four sheets of MDF cut.

“I wrapped them all up and, and wrapped the top of the table. 

“Then used some glue and some brad nails to secure them.

“I sealed all the edges with some silicone… and this is the final result.

Shoppers can pick up IKEA’s Lack side table both online and in-store in three sizes, with prices starting at just £7. 

Similar style marble vinyl sheets can also be found online from various retailers, including Amazon, for as little as £5.99. 

Fans loved her speedy hack, with the video gaining more than 13,300 likes and 300,900 views. 

In the comments, other TikTokkers shared their reactions, with one writing: “I am obsessed.”

Another said: “This is one of the coolest hacks we’ve ever seen!”

“if you put a blow dryer or heat gun to the edges it shrinks the paper into place and sits way more flush on your surface. makes it look real,” suggested another. 

Although not all were convinced, with another adding: “It looks cheap.”

Someone else put: “Erm….no.”

“I feel like the seams shows so doesn’t look as expensive but still a super cute DIY,” a third shared.
