I tried on jeans from five high street stores – best fit felt like Levi's, but Zara was a disaster | The Sun

A FASHION fan put sizing in high stores to the test as she tried on mum jeans in each changing room – and there was a clear winner.

Eilidh Wells, from Glasgow, regularly shares her fashion hauls and outfit ideas on social media (@eilidhwells).

In a recent Instagram post, she carried out a "little experiment" comparing size 10 jeans in River Island, H&M, New Look, Zara and Next.

She said: "It’s crazy how sizes are so inconsistent between stores … and even between different styles in the same store.

"I could take an 8, 10 or 12 in the same day and for some reason, I still let it affect me mood when things don’t fit.

"Here’s what happened when I tried on a size 10 pair of jeans in five different shops."

Eilidh started off with River Island which she admitted was always her favourite when she was younger.

"I actually haven’t bought jeans in here for years.", she said.

"I picked up the size 10 mum jeans and they fit like a dream.

"The material was really thick but in a nice way that kind of pulled me in and there was no gaps, it was just a lovely fit.

"These are on par with Levi's jeans I would say."

Next, the mum of two went to New Look and picked up the £29.99 Tori jeans.

Giving her verdict, she said: "The size 10 did fit but I felt they were a lot tighter around the hips and a lot gapier around the waist and weirdly tight across the bum."

Looking for a better result, Eilidh then headed along to H&M.

But she admitted she "didn’t have high hopes" because she's never found the store to be great for jeans.

She said: "I couldn’t find any mum jeans in there but I did find these flare high waisted ones which I tried but they’re a lot less high waisted than any other shop.

"But other than that they were fine, just not a favourite."

It was, however, a more successful changing room experience in Next.

"I found the mum jeans straight away", Eilidh said.

"These actually feel similar to the Stradivarius mum jeans but a thinner, stretchier material. Especially around the stomach area."

Eilidh finished off her jeans experiment in Zara.

She admitted: "Like a lot of people, the Zara changing room is not my happy place.

"And as expected, I couldn’t even bottom up the size 10.

"But out of curiosity I got another style in a size 10 and they fit perfect. And despite the bad start they actually felt really nice."

Overall, the fashion fan declared the £45 River Island jeans as "the best fit".

Eilidh's clip has racked up more than 18,000 views on Instagram, with social media users flocking to share their own experiences.

One said: "Also love River Island for jeans, feel like they’re always consistent."

A second insisted: "You need to try M&S, the best."

A third wrote: "I picked up 3 different pairs of trousers in Zara the other day; all size 12.

"One was enormous, one was so tiny I couldn’t pull them up, one fit perfectly."
