WHEN your sweetheart proposes you might expect a bouquet of roses, a spectacular sunset or romantic music – but for some, cheap and simple is just as special.
One lucky British woman was given the surprise of her life when her boyfriend proposed in Wetherspoons, and mean trolls have been proven wrong as fans gushed over the heart-warming gesture.
Leah Rose shared her shock and awe with the world, posting a 60-second clip of the event on her TikTok page.
Leah’s now-fiance, Brayden, picked the cheap pub chain for the milestone moment because of its sweet connection to their romance – not for its cut-price pints.
Leah captioned the viral clip: “This was such a surprise, I was so nervous I'm still in shock.”
The video begins with footage of Wetherspoons’ tell tale red patterned carpet as the camera moves towards an occupied table.

Stunned bride-to-be Leah is seen wearing a brown fluffy jacket and messy up-do enjoying a fizzy drink before she realises what her partner has planned.
The mystery cameraman – perhaps a waiter – presents Leah with one of Wetherspoons’ signature blue-patterned plates, featuring a warm cookie dough dessert and sweet sauce spelling out the words ‘will you marry me’.

Leah, overcome with emotion, gives her new fiance a kiss on the lips and laughs as he produces a sparkling engagement ring sneakily buried in the dessert.
TikTok users were quick to comment on the video – but some were less kind than others.
Among the rude reactions, one troll wrote: “In spoons pahaha.”
Another observed: “I love that there’s a lighter on the table.”
Some thought the cookie dough was a panini or lasagne, while others belittled the budget proposal, saying: “In spoons wow you know how to treat her.”

Rushing to her fiance’s defence, Leah replied: “To everyone who wants to laugh and joke about where he asked me to marry him, Spoons used to be the place I’d go with my grandad who sadly passed away.
“We had our first date here and our second date too before we lived together. That’s why he did it,” she explained. “You all keep giggling amongst yourself, you don’t know the reason. It’s not about money, it’s about the memories that were special. It’s the 21st century, bye pagan.”
Others were more supportive of the alternative proposal, and shared their own experiences with the newly engaged couple.
