I’m 40 – trolls tell me I’m ‘too old’ to dress like I do and my 10-year-old tells me to ‘stop fishing for compliments’ | The Sun

A MIDDLE-AGED mom told to dress her age has responded to her critics in the only way she knows how.

As far as this 40-year-old is concerned it is business as usual, and her Goth wardrobe is going to remain just the same and they better get used to it.

Ohio-based TikToker Jessica Hellaine (@jessicahellaine) makes the point clear in her post when she paraded in a number of outfits that had Goth style written all over them.

Jessica is defiant and many of her 23,000 followers are loving her attitude and refusal to bow down to the fashion police

But she might have some way to go to change people’s points of view, and even her 10-year-old tells her to "stop fishing for compliments".

Posing in front of a mirror – and with a skull in the foreground – she is dressed head to toe in Goth-favorite black.

These included some high black boots, a leather belt, lacy tights, T-shirts, a black dress, and a leather bodice.

In the background, a feisty voiceover put her critics very much in their place: “This is my outfit for today and if you don’t like it you can f*ck off," it said.

There were over two hundred comments on her post.

“Beautiful. Wish I could pull that look off,” said one.

Someone singing from the same sheet said: “Love it. I’m 51 and I dress the way I like, with no f*cks given.”

“I’m gonna keep being me. It’s what makes me happy. They will judge you either way," said this fan.

One viewer made this point: “Ah the double standards of society telling moms they need to tone down, then telling moms they let themselves go if they do. Clothes have no age limit."

Finally, this comment said the doubters should be careful about what they wish for: “Yeah, but the same people stole this year’s beige grandparents style.”
