A SKIN expert has revealed the right way to use retinol if you're looking to reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

The skin pro says if you're using it at the wrong time of the day you could be making the product completely useless.


Dr Aleksandra Brown shared her tips in a TikTok video online.

She said: “Guys you’re using your retinol all wrong, I'm a 42 year old board certified dermatologist and here are four tips when using a retinol.”

If you're unfamiliar with retinol it is essentially one of the best products you can use to fight signs of ageing.

Derived from Vitamin A, retinol goes deep below the outer layer of the skin to help boost collagen underneath.

They can help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores.

However retinol comes in varying strengths and it is recommended you start including it in your routine slowly.

The beauty pro's first tip is not to use the product as a spot treatment.

She said: “Never ever spot treat, there's no point in spot treating pimples or applying it only in the areas where you have wrinkles.”

“You use a p-size amount spread it into four dots and connect the dots avoiding that eye area.”

The skin expert said it’s also essential that you only use retinol in the evening.

She said: “You should try and use this every single night, not in the morning tretinoin is broken down by sunlight and it does not work.”

For this reason you should apply sunscreen everyday after applying retinol the night before.

Aleskandra said: “When using Trenton or nightly you must use sunscreen every single morning.”

"Tip number four tretinoin and retinols are intended for year round use it is not winter time only you just need to make sure you're sunscreen.”

The dermatologists video racked up over 51,000 views and many of her followers admitted they have been making some of the key mistakes she’d mentioned.
