I’m a bargain hunter & I save £100 per month by loading my trolley in Aldi every 30 days – it’s exhausting but worth it | The Sun

A WOMAN has revealed that she saves £100 every month by doing a huge monthly food shop in Aldi every 30 days.

Savvy mum Sophie explained that she waits until her cupboards are bare before she takes to the shops.

She claimed that doing such a large Aldi shop is exhausting but it’s worth the wait and it means she is fully stocked with food for the month.

Taking to TikTok to discuss her food shopping, the woman, who posts under the username @sophs_homelife, recently shared a clip with the caption ‘Love a monthly food shop.’

She said: “Happy pay day, I was absolutely dying to go and do my monthly food shop.

“There was absolutely nothing left in the cupboards and fridge.

“So how I do my monthly food shop is I will sit down, have a look at what I've got in my cupboards and fridge and then base a meal plan or food plan around that.

“It was fair to say everything was run down, there was nothing here, so I literally just had fresh food for everything.

“I think of everything – everything for breakfast, everything for lunch, everything for dinner.

“There was nothing to base my meals on, I had to literally just think of meals, which was really nice and refreshing.

“So the way I do my monthly food shop is that I will buy as many things as I can monthly, and I also batch cook at least three meals a week, but I've actually done four this month.

“So we will have the same dinners on every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

“I'll buy as many of those things for the meals monthly and batch cook meals and freeze them as well.

“And then I'll pick up things weekly like fruit, veg, juice, milk, bread – things that I cannot get monthly because otherwise they would go off.

“Having said that, I do freeze a lot of things that would go off, so for example, I get the chocolate chip brioche loaf from Aldi, which is amazing for an on the go breakfast, but I will freeze that and then toast it.

“Anyway the way that I shop is I will get as many things as I can monthly and do that in a shop at the end of the month and I will actually do a week's shopping as well."

Sophie explained that doing her mammoth shop is pretty tiring, but it's worth it for the money she saves.

She added: “So I'll do the monthly shop and the first week shopping in one go, so fair to say the trolley was absolutely rammed and I am absolutely exhausted.

“Every single part of my body hurts today.

“I should have done a click and collect with Aldi, I will do that next month anyway.

“And then obviously for the last three weeks in the month, I will literally just go and do a quick weekly top up.

“I write everything down that I would usually buy weekly, but I always check on a weekly basis what we actually need and it’s usually not much, especially the second week of the month, I never usually need much.

“It seems like a lot of effort and it is, it's really hard work to plan out every single meal, so breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and those things, but especially monthly, but it does save me £80 to £100 a month so it's definitely worth looking into.”

Sophie showed off her food for the month – as she stocked up on everything from meat and fish to fizzy drinks and biscuits.

She nabbed cereal, bread sticks, bread, wraps, pasta, rice and tinned food including soup and baked beans.

She also got a variety of vegetables and salad, as well as meat including steak, bacon, chicken and ham.

She filled her cupboards with juice, milk, alcohol, sauces and crisps and made sure the fridge was full too with yoghurts, butter and cheese

The savvy mum also stocked up her freezer with prawns, pizza, chips, hash browns and onion rings too.

In total, Sophie’s monthly shop cost her £210.

Her clip has clearly impressed many, as it has quickly amassed 163.5k views.

It has 2,794 likes, 128 comments and 33 shares.

Social media users were left stunned at how reasonably priced Sophie’s food shop was, which many took to the comments to express.

One person said: “Maybe I need to take note of what you're buying, for me, my partner and 18 month old I’m spending 120 a week!”

Another added: “That was a good bargain.”
