I’m a dermatologist- my anti-aging secret has been used in Japan for centuries, the DIY approach is practically free | The Sun

A DERMATOLOGIST has revealed her anti-aging secret has been used in Japan for centuries.

But you could ditch shop-bought products that use it and opt for the DIY approach, she said.

It was practically free and just required some extra preparation time.

But, said Dr. Mamima Turegano MD (@dr.mamina), that method should be approached with caution.

This skincare doctor has 1.1 million followers on her TikTok.

In this post, she was letting viewers into the secret of her age-defying potion.

“When it comes to skincare the Japanese have traditionally used various types of ingredients that have gained popularity in skincare routines today," she said.

One of these was surprising but figured it was effective.

“Rice water is an extremely beneficial ingredient used in Japan for centuries," she wrote.

Rice water is a waste product when you cook rice.

It was very good for the complexion and had "skin brightening and anti-aging properties," she said.

But the secret was already out.

“Today you’ll see rice water in various products," she said and revealed one she particularly liked.

“One of my favorites actually is the SK2 Facial Treatment Essence.”

But it didn't come cheap with a price ticket of $99 from SK-II.

“It contains enzymes, amino acids, and vitamins that can help improve skin texture," she said.

There was more it could do too: "It promotes a more even complexion and enhances the skin’s natural radiance."

You could make this stuff yourself though.

“You can take a DIY approach if you prefer. It’s not something I always recommend but if you do decide to take this route it is essential to do so responsibly.”

Quench, a beauty blogger has shown just how to do it sensibly.

Using readily-prepared rice water, she started her beauty routine.

"Dip a cotton ball in rice water and apply it directly on your face. Gently pat it all over your skin, and allow the water to be fully absorbed into the skin.

"Let it sit for half an hour and then wash off with lukewarm water."

She also suggested adding it to your moisturizers.

"Rice water being super-versatile can be mixed with other skincare products easily.
