I’m a DIY expert – seven tips to make painting your house way easier and it’ll stop a mess in the process | The Sun

WE all like to think of ourselves as experts when it comes to painting and decorating.

But when you step back and look at the final product – you realise you've made more mess than you thought.

Thankfully, one DIY whizz has shared her top hacks to help stop you creating a mess when you paint.

Molly Miller, from the US, uploaded her top seven painting tips on her Instagram account, The Renegade Home.

Her first tip is to line your paint tray with cling film before pouring your paint in so that it can easily be removed once you've finished without having to clean the tray.

She also recommends wrapping your paintbrush in this in between coats so that it doesn't dry out.

Next, Molly uses painter's tape and wraps it around the metal of the paintbrush to prevent buildup.

She also recommends using an edging tool to get sharp lines when painting if you find you have difficulty doing it with a brush.

Before you start painting, Molly recommends wrapping your paint roller in lint tape to remove any excess fluff so that it doesn't transfer to the walls and make your paint job look sloppy.

If you find you still have wonky lines even when using painter's tape, use a credit card to smooth it out.

Molly recommends always having baby wipes on hand when painting – so that if you do get any on the floor you can quickly wipe it up before it dries.

If you spot dried paint on your floors, the DIY whizz suggests using a magic eraser to quickly remove it.

Finally, Molly's last hack, and her favourite, is called the 'file folder trick.'

If you can't be bothered to tape then this is for you, Moly says a plastic file folder works best but you can use a cardboard one too.

"You basically just drag the folder along with you and it keeps the paint off whatever you don't want to be painted without spending a ton of time taping," she explains.

Viewers of her videos were blown away by the easy hacks, one wrote: "This is so genius!"
