WITH rising energy bills and Christmas less than eight weeks away, we’re all trying to cut back on our spending. 

Unfortunately, takeaways are one of the first things to go. 


But one savvy cook has taken to TikTok to share his ‘fakeaway’ recipe, showing fans how to make thick crust-style pizza for less than £5. 

Mitch, known online as @mealsbymitch, regularly shares his £5 meal ideas online with his 1.1 million followers. 

In his latest video, Mitch is seen turning five ingredients into a takeaway-style pizza.

“You don’t need any skill to make this, or any finesse whatsoever. It’s a nice little recipe you can get your kids involved [in] making as well. 

“So get the biggest bloomer loaf you can find, cut it in half. 

“Get yourself a bowl, squeeze in the entire tube of tomato puree, and add a little bit of water. 

“Give it a good stir, you want it to be this consistency. Add a little bit of salt and pepper as well, [and] give it another mix.

“Then you want to spread this out on your two pieces of bread now. 

“Just get it on there, make sure there’s a nice even coating. You want it to look something like this.

“I’ve got two balls of mozzarella, just break them all up and spread them across evenly as well. 

“You can top it with whatever you like. I’m going with pepperoni and jalapenos, but you can use red onion, peppers, or even sweetcorn. Whatever floats your boat, whatever takes your fancy. 

“Into the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, and it’s going to come out looking something like this. 

“And just look at the absolute state of it. So simple, but tastes fantastic. Bon appetit.” 

During the one-minute video, Mitch shares his receipt, showing all the ingredients came to a total of £4.43 at Sainsbury’s. 

For the sourdough pizza, the content creator uses jalapenos, pepperoni, two balls of mozzarella, tomato puree and a loaf of giraffe bread. 

Fans loved the recipe, with the video gaining more than 72,000 likes and 1.4 million views.
