A PEST control expert has revealed his repellent hacks which banish mosquitos from your home.

The pesky insects can leave you with nasty itchy bites during the balmy summer months.

Jordan Foster of Fantastic Pest Control has compiled a shortlist of ways to banish them without using plant-damaging pesticides.

The pest control whizz first recommend fixing gaps and cracks in your doors and other areas in your home.

Next, Jordan recommends placing either citronella or lavender-scented candles around the house.

He continued: "Citronella candles and lavender candles are very effective at repelling mosquitoes – the insects cannot stand the aroma."

Simply add a few drops of an essential oil to a spray bottle of water – and spray the solution on your skin or across your gaff.

"Lemongrass, peppermint, clove, and tea tree oil are options, as well."

For those who suffer severely from mosquito bites, installing a net in your room can help avoid being bitten during the night.

The pest control guru said: "Only this measure alone can effectively prevent the flying insects from biting you in your sleep, especially if there are open windows and doors nearby."

When lounging in the garden, Jordan swears against standing water features – as these actually attract mosquitos.

He explained: "The best method to decrease their population is to find and eliminate their breeding grounds.

"For this reason, you should remove any standing water."
