I’m an interior design expert – 7 decor trends I hate, they make you look poor & like you live in a cheesecake factory | The Sun

YOU should steer clear of some common go-to decor trends, according to an interior expert.

From particular color schemes to various patterns and textures, when it comes to designing your home, you shouldn't opt for these elements.

"Starting us off we have the Tuscan kitchen. They look out of place in every home that they're in," interior guru Laura Lisbon began in a TikTok video shared with his 211K followers.

"I honestly just don't get the appeal of having your kitchen look like a cheesecake factory."

Tuscan-style kitchens can be characterized by an arched brick ceiling, lots of cabinets, a terracotta tile floor, and solid furniture made of natural wood.

Lisbon's next gripe was with faux wood tile.

"First off, you're not fooling anyone. Secondly, it just looks bad, and I promise you everybody's going to be ripping [them] out in two to three years," he asserted.

He moved on to a particular door style you'll want to ditch as well.

"Next, we have the barn doors. Heavy as hell and add absolutely nothing of value."

And there's a specific color scheme that makes your home look unwelcoming, according to Lisbon.

"Then we have grey and white interiors. It's honestly like two steps away from looking like Patrick Bateman stays there. It doesn't look luxurious, and it's the quickest way to make a place look cold, still, and uninviting."

Lisbon also highlighted a trend from the mid-2010s that he deemed as "muggy and gross." It features an interior that he described as "pee yellow and poo brown," which you shouldn't implement in your home.

And lastly, the interior expert covered matching certain pieces.

He stated: "Then we got the curtains with the matching upholstery. Just don't. This is the stuff that I would do in the Sims 3. Don't."

Some people in Lisbon's comments section agreed with his takes, like one person who wrote: "The 2010s yellow and brown always reminds me of a dimly lit restaurant bathroom that needs to be cleaned."

Other viewers had opposing opinions.

A second quipped: "I love grey and white because I'm boring and I don't want people to feel invited and comfy in my personal space. Get out and don't come back, please."
