I'm a professional cleaner and there's 10 things I'll NEVER have in my home – including an item that just attracts dirt | The Sun

WE all aim to keep our houses tidy and clean.

But did you know there are actually some homeware items that end up attracting dirt?

And if there's anyone who knows about that, it's professional cleaner Sara.

Sara, who works for Household Heroes in New South Wales, Australia, took to TikTok to share the top 10 things she'd never have in her home – with shaggy rugs among them.

"It doesn't matter what colour these are, but they are very hard to maintain as a lot of dust, dirt and debris gets caught amongst the tiny fibres very easily and is extremely hard to extract," she said.

"Whether you're vacuuming several times a day or just once a day, it doesn't matter – these will never be perfect."

Moving onto the kitchen, and Sara also isn't a fan of matte black cabinets in there.

"They look amazing but the reality of the day to day management of this furniture is endless," she said.

"You will always be cleaning these as it only takes one person opening up a cupboard to get a cup and bang, you have visible fingerprints, smudges and dirt all over.

"And not to mention just the dirt and debris that accumulates on them."

It's the same with glass staircases and glass dining tables – Sara's "pet hate".

"As these are used most days, especially with young kids they are so easily made dirty by smudging and smearing," she said.

"We don't only have to clean the top of it but also underneath it."

Likewise, black furniture needs "constant care and cleaning" because they attract so much dust.

"If they're not wiped over very often, they look very dusty and dirty," Sara added.

"I find that black furniture just makes a home look unkept."

And something else that requires constant upkeep is mirrored furniture.

"If you're not wiping over these every day, don't bother having it," she said.

Sara also insisted she'd never have aluminium blinds in her house – adding that she "hates them" – as well as black flooring, which can make a house look dark and dingy.

Open wardrobes are also a no-no, with Sara adding: "Unless you're willing to make sure that everything in that wardrobe is neat and tidy, these will always look messy."

And she concluded her list by saying she'll never have intricate lighting in her home either.

"These look great in a home but we have to get up on ladders to make sure that we are cleaning these efficiently – removing all the dust, and it's just very time consuming, so I wouldn't have these in my home," she said.

And the comments section on Sara's video was quickly filled with people agreeing with the majority of her statements.

"Any black furniture!" one wrote.

"I spend just as long cleaning it as a en suite."
