I’m a professional cleaner – my most hated viral TikTok hack is not only dangerous, it will damage your floor | The Sun

A CLEANING enthusiast has shared a pet peeve that does more harm than good.

She said it is not only dangerous but will also damage the floor of your home.

Cleanliness fan Kendra Hennessy (@themotherlikeaboss) is not the biggest fan of viral hacks on TikTok.

As someone with over 17 years of experience as a professional cleaner, she knows what it takes to get your house looking brand new with simple methods.

In a TikTok video, she shared a pet peeve that is dangerous and damages your floors.

"The reason I don't love cleaning hacks? Because what works for one person may be dangerous for another," she wrote in the video caption.

According to Kendra, using boiling hot water on any floor can be detrimental, especially on wood floors.

"Listen up. You do not need boiling water to clean your floors," she said as it began.

"I actually saw this in action with one of my cleaning clients who was using a steam mop on her wood floors daily," she divulged.

Then, the woman noticed that "the wood was starting to bow and warp a little bit."

That was because the concentrated steam was going deep into the wood.

"It can have a damaging effect on any adhesives that are used, especially under vinyl floors, or any sealants that are used on top of your floor, especially if you're doing it really often," she said.

Instead, she suggested people use warm water and mild soap, like dish soap, to clean floors or use the recommended cleaner for their type of floor.

"Most cleaning hacks that you're seeing on TikTok are done with the best intentions, but they can be ineffective at best and damaging at worst," she said right before the video ended.

"You spend a lot of money on your home, friend. The last thing you want is to ruin those pretty floors," she added.

Many people shared their individual experiences with the trick in the comment section of the video.

A viewer simply commented: "Thanks! Makes sense to me.

"I ruined our vinyl floors with the steam mop. Now, I just use warm water and some dawn soap with the spin mop," another added.

"Exactly!!!! My husband is a flooring installer. Always check with manufacturers' cleaning recommendations. Steam mops are the worse except a ceramic," a fan agreed.
