I'm an interior designer and these ‘luxury’ trends are secretly super trashy – coffee table books are ick for starters | The Sun

AN INTERIOR designer has revealed the trends you should avoid at all costs if you don't want to waste money and end up with a tacky home.

Garrett LeChic said he's tired of seeing the same luxury trends on social media when they don't actually look that good.

The interior designer slated chunky coffee table books people buy just for the look, not to read.

The "perfect example" is the Tom Ford coffee table book a lot of influencers post on social media, Garrett said.

He continued: "If you're not interested in Tom Ford though, why do you have the book?"

"You have the book because you think it makes you look bougie and luxurious and expensive, and the book was expensive so I know you spent the money on it, but why?"

Another pricey trend you shouldn't waste your hard earned cash on isbold marble.

Not only is it absolutely everywhere, but some of the bold marble designs don't look that great anyway, according to the pro.

"So much marble literally looks like vomit, I know it's disgusting but that's what it's giving," Garrett said.

Small amounts of marble and a mixture of different marbles can still look good in your home – just avoid going all-out on the same style.

And when it comes to expensive bathroom renovations you should also steer clear of floating countertops too.

Garrett said: "I don't like them, there's no storage, where are you putting your stuff?"

Overly contemporary interiors are also really overdone and you should try and mix it up a bit.

"Let's be real, contemporary interior design is literally just squares, it's just squares and people act like it's so ground breaking," the pro said.

If you do love contemporary design you should do something more interesting with it, like mix in traditional elements or vintage furniture, He added.

One thing you should try and mix it up with is fuzzy shearling furniture – not only is it mega expensive but it's going to be dated in no time.

"Some materials are just too delicate for everyday use, and shearling and faux shearling is one of those things," he said.
