I'm naming my daughter after two Disney princesses – I'm worried it sounds 'silly' and 'too much,' it has divided people | The Sun

A WOMAN who has given her daughter a name from the same stable as Mickey Mouse has discovered that everyone has a view on it.

She has plucked a couple of names straight from the heart of Disney land.

But for this mom, it hasn't been happy ever after.

She and her husband had very different reasons behind their choice of Christian names for their baby girl.

Mom, however, was concerned about the reaction to their selections and took to one of the Reddit forums for some guidance.

It was there, she revealed their favorite names for their newborn.

"We will choose Aurora because one of my and my husband's dreams is to see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis)," she explained.

But there was another reason for the name Aurora.

"It is my favorite Disney princess and I think is beautiful."

Aurora was also known as Sleeping Beauty in the classic 1959 film.

The first name decided upon, they were struggling to find a middle name that complimented it.

"We're having a hard time picking a middle name that goes with Aurora," she confided, "and the Ariel idea came up."

She swore she and her husband were "mature adults" when she explained why they liked Ariel.

"It means Lion of God which I love," she said.

But there was room for another Disney princess: "Ariel is my husband's favorite princess," she admitted.

Ariel was the protagonist in Disney's Little Mermaid animated film.

After an initial enthusiasm for Aurora Ariel, she was beginning to question their decisions.

"I’m worry that is a little too much," she confided to the forum.

The comments section was frank and honest in the feedback.

None more so, than this comment: "I think both names are pretty independent of each other," he said, before pointing out that, "in the UK Ariel is also a popular washing detergent."

He continued: "It's a little silly to have two Disney Princess names and it cheapens them in a way. Also, might not be the best when they are an adult."

But this commenter was a fellow Disney fan so adored their choices.

"I love both names. I do feel as if “Ariel Aurora” flows a little easier. But honestly, hardly anyone uses first and middle names besides parents and legal documents."

She did add something thought-provoking, however: "I hope your daughter loves Disney."

But the final thought to this viewer, who was not smitten with the name but it was their baby: "It sounds silly to me, but perhaps not to you! Go with what you like," she said.
