A STYLISH nan did a haul of Marks & Spencer’s new season clothing but held no prisoners when reviewing the “grown up” and pyjama-esque dresses.
Helen Charge tried on a host of items ahead of her cruise holiday, but the haul turned out like marmite – she either loved the pieces or she hated them.
The 65-year-old runs a ‘hauls in my hall’ series on YouTube which has seen her grow a loyal fanbase of women looking for no-frills fashion reviews.
All of the pieces she tried on were in a size 18 and part of M&S’ new Spring silhouettes.
The first item was a black, purple and white printed midaxi dress with a fabric belt for £59.
Helen, who runs the Helen Mary Jo channels on social media, described the dress as “a bit different” and joked: “It’s what I call a ‘grown up dress’.

“How ridiculous, I’m 65.”
However, she thought it was best suited to an office worker and stuck it back in its packaging for a return.
The next dress was a £39.50 relaxed blue and white summer dress made with linen.
Again being no-nonsense, Helen shared that she didn’t love it and wasn’t keeping it.

She said: “There’s nothing wrong with it but it’s quite a lot of money for something I don’t really love.
“I’m trying to be a bit more judicious now because, as you know, I’ve just bought a tonne of clothes.”
The stylish nan turned things up a notch for the third dress of her haul, calling out the retailer for making it “cheap”.
She described the M&S Embroidered V-Neck Midi Tiered Dress as “really weird” due to the scratchy feel of the material and questioned its £59 price tag.
Helen said: “Nice detail on the embroidery but it kind of reminds me of a cheap nighty.
“I feel like if somebody put a match near me, it would melt onto me.”
Unimpressed by the dress offerings, Helen went on to try a £22.50 pair of white linen trousers and some jumpers.
She nabbed a polo-neck pink knitted jumper in the sale for £23 in an XL and joked: “It’s just about long enough to cover my belly… and my black knickers.”
The cotton blend of the material got the vibrant number in Helen’s good books.
Moving on to the linen trousers, she narrated: “It’s probably the best pair of linen trousers I’ve come across because they’re not wide leg.
“I think they’re more flattering.
“They’re not tight at all but I’d rather they were just a bit heavier”.
Her final item was the Pure Cotton Collared Knitted Top for £29.50 which she also described as “grown up” and praised for coming in a medium green colour too.
The social media savvy nan was careful to not promote overconsumption of clothes and stayed transparent with what she chose to keep and chose to return.
Her viewers flocked to the comments to gush over the video.
