Here she gives a reader advice on whether she should go to university or focus on her online business.
Q: I’ve been offered a place at a Russell Group university, which I’ve deferred for a year as I didn’t want to go straight after my A levels.
Over the past five months, I’ve been building up an online business selling bespoke fake nails, which I paint myself.
My dream is to open a salon.
My family are proud I’ve got a place at uni, and while I was excited about going, my heart is telling me to pursue my business.

It’s clear you have a passion for running your own business, and you have vision.

Remember, there’s no one-size-fits-all path to success.
Some like the structure and formal education of university, and others like to learn on the job, like I did.
You’ve demonstrated your entrepreneurial spirit, but now work out how you go from where you are currently to running a successful business.
Develop a detailed plan, including how you will finance the business and grow your customer base.
This could highlight areas where you need development, and studying a subject like business could help.
Contact the university admissions office to ask about your options, as they may allow you to defer for another year or to study part-time.
It’s important to understand all the options available to you before discussing it with family.
Ultimately, the decision is yours, so trust your instincts and believe in your ability.
Remember, success can be achieved through various paths and what matters most is that you’re passionate about and dedicated to what you’re doing.
