Express.co.uk spoke to personal stylist and fashion expert Miranda Holder about Kate’s fashion sense and how the average person can copy her style. After examining the Duchess’ favourite outfits, Express.co.uk has found similar, cheaper versions available to buy online – to get her look for less.

Miranda said: “Over the years, we have witnessed Kate’s wardrobe blossom from a relatable and accessible ‘girl next door’ to something more regal and sophisticated, suitable for a future Queen.

“Working closely with her friend and stylist Natasha Archer, Kate seems more comfortable in her own skin than ever, and her confidence and innate grace contribute to her megawatt style.

“The fabled ‘Kate-effect’ continues as her fashion goes from strength to strength, with some significantly bolder and more daring outfit choices over the last couple of years.”

Miranda noted that the Duchess’ takes her body shape into consideration when getting dressed.

She explained: “Kate has an athletic, naturally slim figure and is five foot nine with broad shoulders.

“She has developed the perfect signature look or ‘style uniform’ to compliment her enviable looks.”

Miranda went on to list the outfits Kate prefers, saying: “She is usually spotted stepping out in familiar coat dresses or other ‘fit and flare’ silhouettes whilst always maintaining enough modesty for the duties of the day.

“Hemlines are predictably on the knee, her beautiful waist is always defined and her go-to nude court shoes have just enough spike to keep her more demure looks drool-worthy to onlooking fashionistas.

“Besides the myriad of immaculately cut coat dresses – often a practical choice as it’s against etiquette for Kate to remove her coat in public – Kate favours swishy summer dresses in a rainbow of hues and beautifully tailored separates, usually an eye-catching blouse and wide leg trousers.”

The fashion expert continued: “The Duchess will almost always have a fuller, A-line skirt to balance out her beautiful broad shoulders but likes to keep us guessing with her necklines.

“We have seen her dazzle in everything from boat and crew necks to high fashion Peter Pan collars and show stopping off-the-shoulder numbers.”

As for accessories, Miranda said that Kate’s jewellery is “relatively subtle, with small to medium sized drop earrings giving Kate’s looks just enough sparkle and not detracting from the show stopping engagement ring, which of course belonged to her mother in law, the late Princess Diana”.

Kate is almost always seen wearing her sapphire and diamond ring – seemingly favouring this jewel over her gold wedding band.

Miranda added: “Kate’s final outfit flourish is always a clutch bag, the must-have royal accessory for not only carrying essentials, but shielding your décolletage when climbing out of cars or signalling to your aides when one feels uncomfortable or needs to end a conversation.”

In terms of colour analysis, the Duchess knows which hues suit her best.

“Kate is an ‘autumn’ and her natural beauty shines the most when she is wearing shades from this palette,” Miranda explained.

“However, thanks to her mane of glossy brown hair and piercing green eyes, she also looks good in jewel tones and brights, which she has adopted into her colourful and vibrant wardrobe.”

Kate’s wardrobe is mostly for royal engagements – usually special occasions and public visits.

But she also has a wardrobe for more casual, relaxed days.

“When off-duty, Kate is a country girl at heart and looks happy and radiant in skinny jeans, knee high leather boots or trainers, Breton tops and classic blazers,” Miranda added.
