Kate Middleton and Prince William got married almost 12 years ago, but the Princess of Wales’s wedding dress is still the most popular bridal gown of all time. This is according to new research done by fashion experts at Boohoo.
Some of the greatest events of the year that frequently draw attention from the general public are celebrity and royal weddings.
Researchers have carried out a study that discloses the most popular wedding dresses of all time.
The number of people searching for wedding dresses in the UK each month was determined by fashion experts at Boohoo using data from Google searches and a list of celebrities that got married between 1923 and 2023.
Kate, Princess of Wales’s wedding dress came out on top as the most popular bridal gown of all time, getting 9,300 average searches per month.
One of the major occasions of the 2010s was the Prince and Princess of Wales’s wedding.
Kate wore a dress by British designer Alexander McQueen to this royal wedding, which caused search interest in the keyword “wedding dress” to soar to 900 percent.
The second and third places were also awarded to members of the Royal Family – Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and the late Princess Diana respectively.
Britons gathered to watch another royal wedding seven years after the Prince and Princess of Wales’s nuptials.

Prince Harry and Meghan were involved this time. The Duchess wore a Givenchy dress, choosing a simpler shape that would make it easier for her to walk around.
This event’s search interest increased by 614 percent in 2018, and Meghan’s dress still gets 8,100 average searches a month.
Princess Diana’s wedding dress is the third most popular and gets 3,900 average searches a month.
David and Elizabeth Emanuel created Diana’s garment, which reportedly contained so much fabric that it had to be wrapped around her in the carriage.
Celebrities Nicola Peltz and Kourtney Kardashian came in fourth and fifth place respectively for their wedding dresses.
Pippa Middleton followed in sixth place with her gorgeous Giles Deacon gown which she wore in 2017 to marry James Matthews.
The next royal to make the list was Lady Kitty Spencer who came in 11th place.
Finally, Princess Beatrice was the only other royal to make the most popular wedding dress of all time list, landing in 12th place.
A spokesperson for Boohoo said: “Celebrity wedding dresses are often a major factor of fashion trends. The public sees all these intricate designs and is inspired to use the features for their own weddings.
“We can see from the data that these weddings create a buzz around them, with people searching and talking about the designers and styles.
“It’s interesting to see that Audrey Hepburn and Princess Diana are on the list, considering that their weddings were long before the widespread use of the internet.
“These findings show that although weddings are a private affair with close family and friends, the high-profile of royals like the Princess of Wales and Duchess of Sussex tend to command much higher interest in their lives and the fashion they wear.”
