It turns out it may be easier than you think to achieve, if you just adopt nine easy habits in your life.


Here are the small tweaks you should make to your everyday life which will make a big difference.

1. Constantly declutter and donate

People with immaculate houses are constantly going through their possessions to get rid of things they no longer need or want.

Amy Revell and Kirsty Farrugia, hosts of The Art of Decluttering podcast, told Homes to Love: "Clutter is like a magnet, clutter attracts clutter.

"A home that has less stuff is so much easier to keep tidy.

2. Follow the one-touch rule

They explained: "If you get into the habit of putting things away the first time you touch them, you'll find it easy to maintain a tidy home.”

This could include wiping down surfaces as soon as you’ve used them, or tidying away straighteners before moving on to do your make-up.

3. Share the load

It can be very hard to have the perfect home if there is just one person tackling the lion share.

Consider making a chores list or delegating jobs to make it easier to achieve a tidy home.

4. Make your bed

It may only take a minute, but making your bed can set your day up for tidying success.

The simple chore can change the look of your bedroom and inspire you to keep up being neat.

5. Be mindful when shopping

Oprah Winfrey’s decluttering guru Peter Walsh advises a tidy home starts outside the house, when you are shopping. 

He said: "We're made to believe that if we buy the right thing, we'll be closer to the elusive 'happiness' we seek.

"[But] I always tell clients – if the price is the best thing about an item, don't buy it. Ever!"

6. Organise your pantry

If you open your food cupboards and get stressed, it may be time for a pantry glow-up.

Numerous shops are now selling glass jars or labelled storage boxes to create an aesthetically pleasing kitchen. 

7. Give everything a place

The experts recommend that every item you own should have its own designated space.

And you should always follow the mantra of “don't put it down, put it away.”

This means items get put back in their spot and don’t lie around the house for days.

8. Straighten up before bed

Carve a small slot in your evening to straighten everything up before bed.

This means any mess isn’t hanging over you the next day and it’ll give you a headstart for the morning.

9. Have a minimalist home

You may love keeping hold of all items in your home, but it makes your job a lot harder.
